buggy for newborn and 18 month old

Hello,

Am wondering if anyone can help me please? I'm not due till July but starting to think about buggies. DD will be about 18 months plus will have a new born. Ideally I'd like something you can have a carrycot and car seat on if this is possible? I need something that folds easily too.

I've currently got a Cameleon 3 and wondering about the donkey? Also like the mountain buggy.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on these? Thanks in advance!

Mountain buggy duet is great, the Donkey is good but quite wide.I have yet to come across anywhere that we can't fit with the mountain buggy.
It's also much easier to fold than the Donkey.
The only little thing I dislike about the mountain buggy is the brake as it can stick, but ours is second hand so that might be why.

Little nipper out and about double buggy - this is what someone I know with two under two went for, and someone else with twins replaced their double oyster with after only a couple of months and said it was so much better.

I've just bought the iCandy peach blossom with a carrycot. My second DS is due in March.

We have loved the donkey and have had no problems with fitting through doors etc. It steers perfectly and you can get adaptors so a car seat can fit on (this was an essential criteria for us!).

Do you need to put it in the car? Walk a lot? Public transport? What kind of shops do you usually use?
I have a britax b-dual and for me it's great as, while its big as a single, it makes a small ish double as it is one seat behind the other. I can put it in the car, use it on the bus and get round most shops easily. And walk miles! There are lots of combinations for carry cots, car seats and normal seats too. Both seats big enough for large 3 year old if needed.
When I no longer need it as a double I will use it as a single as the shopping basket is huge
My friend has a baby jogger city mini (I think that's what it's called) and the seats are really narrow and her tiny just 3 year old looks squashed.

Consider if you need one also. We have a 15 month gap and just used the single bugaboo chameleon with them. We added the buggy board which as great and tucks up out the way when not using. And used a sling. Used boba 4g which is suitable from newborn on front, and up to toddlers on back so ok for both.
Was fine tbh. Baby easier in sling first few months anyway as then easier to follow eldest. Had eldest walk when local and possible to get him used to it, he could stand on board if speed needed, and would just take baby out pram and elder in if he was tired and needed to nap. Or could put elder in sling on back also.

It will be mostly be used to walk into town a good 25 min walk each way but I will use it in and out the car too a couple of times a week. DD always falls asleep in the car so would always wake if I tried move her hence why something I could pop a car seat on would be ideal really.

Art- I'm def considering a sling too and keeping bugaboo. My only concerns are I'm having a section and I had a few back problems last time from lazy breastfeeding position hopefully I won't get again but just thinking of I walk into town do errands etc I could be walking for a good 1.5/ 2 hours. Is that too going to hurt my back? I could just do this for a bit and then get a stroller?

Well the sling we used was boba 4g. I would def recommend looking at one or borrowing from a sling library if you can. We used up to 3 1/2 as goe son back so you could try with eldest also. We had two and Dh and I carried both almost daily when eldest was 18-20 months, baby 3-5months as we went backpacking abroad. Very comfortable and good for all day use if needed. Baby would be in it most the day, elder in and out with walking in between

So your then 18mo would be in an infant capsule car seat? Those are the the only ones that go onto a buggy. Or you anticipating new baby will fall asleep in car and not want to be transferred?

You could maybe wait and see. DS was happy in buggy as newborn but DD wouldn't go in so was worn for 4mo so DS got to stay in the Bugaboo for a while. I don't find wearing a baby that young in a sling difficult at all.

Now we use the new Bugaboo buggy board. It has a seat and clicks up out the way when not in use. We've really enjoyed it as DS is right by me so we can chat more easily than when he was in the buggy facing the world. And he loves leaning over DD.

Thanks Onsera! More worried newborn will fall asleep in car and wake if I transfer. But I'm very tempted to hold on Luke you say till they're here. I'd quite like a double Maclaren style as that will last me years as is light but it's just a bit hard for a newborn to start I think?
What age did your DS use buggy board from?

I had the mountain buggy duet with carrycot and the adaptors for a maxi cosi infant carrier and I found it excellent. We didn't use it for very long as my 2.5 year old walked everywhere but I would really recommend. Nice and narrow for going through doors and around shops.

Baby number 2 is due in August. Dd will be about 14 months old. I plan on using the iCandy Peach Blossom. (Off ebay because I'd want a car for that price, not just a pushchair!). I like fact that the footprint will only be the size of a single pushchair (not extra wide or long). DD in front facing toddler seat, baby in car seat or carrycot.

Also considering baby in a sling, but I know other family members won't want to do that so will need a reliable double.

I went for the Phil and Ted's with mine (14 month gap) love it

Hi OP, I have a 3 week old and an 18 month old and I've got the mountain buggy duet. At the moment I have the baby in the carry cot which I had to buy separately. I can also put the car seat on- again, the car seat adaptors were extra.

So far so good, it's a different feel to a bugaboo or icandy buggy, very utilitarian. The seats are quite narrow and the carrycot is super narrow! DS2 was 9lb9oz at birth and is already nearly 10lbs so I'd say I'll get another month or two max from the carrycot. It does then convert into a parent-facing seat though so that should see me through another few months until he's ready to go into the standard forward facing seat.

Just on the double McLaren- I believe they're not great with a toddler and small baby as the uneven weight distribution affects steering badly due to the frame being so lightweight.

Mine used the bugaboo bord from about 15 months. Gradually increasing from 5 mins stroll around corner to being able to use for ages. This Was the regular board though as no seat available at the time.

I know you didn't ask but do look at the current research for car seat use. It's pretty scary and shows that even 30 mins in a car seat for a young baby can really affect their oxygen supply as they aren't in the right position neck wise in a car seat. I wouldn't suggest you use the car seat for anything other than in the car. Get some comfy sheepskin liner for pram for its cosy and baby will get used very quickly to being transferred from car seat into pram or sling.
It actually makes it far easier later for second child to be used to falling asleep anywhere and being transferred
