Buggyboards - handy or a pita?

DD is 21mo and DC2 is expected in June. All along I thought I'd buy a buggyboard for my beloved Uppababy Vista but on looking into it I'm wondering if it's the right thing to do. If you've used a buggyboard did you like it? Is 2yo too young for it? I'm worried now that she will just keep trying to jump off in the road.

Also I didn't realise they were so expensive! The UB one is £70, the lascal is around £55. I know it's still way cheaper than a double buggy but it surprised me.

I live abroad where the pavements are really bad - full of holes with the biggest curbs. The vista has big wheels so copes fine, but with a buggy board clipped on the back I won't be able to manoeuvre up & down big curbs will I? Plus I love the leg room with the vista. How do you actually walk normally with a buggy board attached??

The rumble seat for the vista won't work for us, and slings can get hot although I will try. I can't get a double buggy for various reasons.

I really like mine but my dd is 3 (she is autistic though so can be a bit wild at times ) and we live in an area where the pavements are pretty even.

I used mine loads after ditching the double buggy, only 18 months between mine. They go up and down kerbs and handled uneven surfaces well. I got a Lascal Mini from Precious Little One for £30ish, and I've seen lots of second hand ones at baby sales then you can buy the connectors on ebay.

That's really interesting lanbro. Do you find the mini to be plenty big enough? I couldn't find an explanation of the two on the lascal site. Do you have to buy connectors separately?

Yes the mini was more than big enough. If you buy new you get the connectors included, second hand and you'll have to buy connectors separately.

Didn't work for me.

It wasn't too bad over smooth pavements but I found it difficult over bumps. The bigger problem was getting DD (2) to stand on it, especially if she was tired or didn't want to go home from the park or whatever.

Double buggy was much easier for keeping her contained. By the time we passed the tantrum phase she was happy to walk 99% of the time, I used to tuck a sling in the buggy just in case she needed a ride.

Ive been looking on ebay and 2nd hand ones still go for quite a lot so perhaps I'll buy one and sell it on if it's no good. Really wish I could get a double buggy to be honest but I know it just wouldn't fit anywhere I'd need to go and they only sell rubbish things over here.

DD was two and three months when DD2 arrived. The rumble board for the vista has been great as she is quite a good walker- so wasn't using the buggy a great deal anyway. It is perfect for when she gets tired and she likes it much better than the buggy as she can hop on and off. So far she has not run away, but I think it may get her to wear her backpack with a wrist strap when we are going near roads. It handles bumps and kerbs pretty well and I find it doesn't really get in my way when I put the handle at full height. I use a baby carrier often and on the one occasion she had asked to take the pushchair rather than the pram out so she can ride in it I just put DD2 in her sling. A decent carrier like a Lillebaby does until about age 4 anyway so I keep that in the basket to give me the flezibility of carrying one of the two of them if I need to. DD calls the buggy board her scooter and is very pleased with it. I would say go for it.

PITA. Had to shorten my stride to use it and I was walking slightly hunched over. No use at all.

Kept the Phil and teds until school age in the end. DS hopped in and out as he fancied. Easier for shopping too.

I had 2 year age gap. Used double buggy for a year. Once dd1 was 3, i got a buggy board and it was great@

I have one for DS2 (nearly 3) as DD1 (3.5 months) now uses the buggy. It's not that easy to walk with - I'm tall and we have it on a Maclaren XLR. But it's really handy for when I'm on my own and DS2 gets tired. I got mine second hand - I think they're over priced when new...

I quite liked ours but didn't use it a huge amount. Dd was more or less 3 exactly when she started using it, was so pleased not to have to struggle with a double buggy. That said, I never really had to talk miles with the buggy - it was more like local trips to the high street/library/pre-school that sort of thing, and dd was pretty keen to walk herself most of the time, so it only got used when she got really tired.
