Tiny car boot - can you recommend me a pram/pushchair

Due DC2 in June and starting to think about getting a few bits. We've got most things from DS but we had (still have actually) a Graco travel system for him which was great, really easy to use and fold - but it's huge and there's no way it will go on the boot of the car I have now. It's a Suzuki Alto and has a tiny boot. Can anyone recommend anything that might fit and is a reasonable price?

I got an Oyster system. It folds down and comes apart enough to fit in the boot of my Fiat 500C!

Bugaboo Bee (ford KA!)

strawberrypenguin · 13/01/2016 22:56

Thanks I'll have a look into both of those.

How are you getting on?

Did you want something that just folds, or are you OK with dismantling?

strawberrypenguin · 19/01/2016 09:10

Something that just folds would be great. Trouble is my car boot is even smaller than a fiat 500. Mines only 129 litres (really must take a tape measure to it! Might have to just go and try some!

When DC were older, we had a Quinny Zapp which folded down easily and fitted into the passenger footwell of DH's two seater car. As far as I can tell, the Zapp Xtra folds down similarly but can also have newborn insert so can lie flat. Both can also be used with car seat.

strawberrypenguin · 22/01/2016 10:22

Thanks I'll add that to the list to look at :)

Babystyle Oyster Gem fit in the boot of a Kia Picanto without taking any wheels off etc. I picked a decent one up on eBay for about £50.

The bugaboo bee fits in a Toyota aygo which is the same as the Citroen c1 and Peugeot 108. Tiny boot! My bee has been great. Had it since 2010. Now using it for my second baby and it's still going strong.

Have a look at the iCandy Raspberry. Similar to a Bugaboo Bee but much cheaper and has a newborn cocoon rather than a carrycot (it's basically a lie-flat stroller, so no dismantling of bits, though you can get car seat adaptors and use it with a MaxiCosi). We don't have a car so not au fait with different boot sizes but it folds down pretty compactly and stores easily in our narrow hall.

Only downside for me is that you do need two hands to fold it. Oh, and the hood isn't even shower proof so keep the raincover handy. But otherwise, we love ours.

Cerseirys · 06/02/2016 22:44

Babyzen Yoyo? One handed fold and will fit into even the tiniest boot.

ACatCalledFang · 07/02/2016 12:07

Have just seen an article on www.madeformums.com, which lists ten of the most compact folding pushchairs....might be of interest? Several I'd never heard of including a new Mothercare one.

strawberrypenguin · 08/02/2016 15:44

Ooh lovely thanks, I've just had a look. Planning a trip to mothercare to try some of them out in a couple of weeks so that's really handy

I can fit an icandy strawberry in my kia picanto boot - was much easier when carrycot was no longer needed though!

bishboschone · 09/02/2016 19:42

I don't have a massive boot ( Nissan Juke ) but I have a massive pushchair .. Baby jogger city elite .. ( my son has sn and can't walk far ) it fits in just fine as the frame folds fairly small and the wheels pop off .. Then they just sit on top . So make sure you buy one that does this .. If you want a stroller then the maclarens fold up very small and thin .

FellOutOfBedTwice · 09/02/2016 19:47

My silvercross surf folds down into the boot of my Hyundai Amica. You're probably not familiar with the Amica but it's basically a sewing machine with seats in. It's tiny. Here's a photo of an Amica "boot" which is really too small to even warrant the name.

Looks similar to mine fell although I think mine might actually be slightly narrower than that!

Baby jogger city zip! It's the bees knees and very small.

Scoopmuckdizzy · 10/02/2016 13:03

Mamas and papas armadillo flip is a compact fold.

tryingtocatchthewind · 12/02/2016 08:39

I probably win on the small boot stakes - a classic mini! It's seriously small.

Back in 2012 when I was looking there was only the Quinny Zapp or the Petite Zia Star which would fit. Both nice prams but only the Zia lay flat.

There's a lot of other options now but I think the updated Quinny Zapp would be a good choice as it's really small.

Applycrumbly · 12/02/2016 08:47

Mamas and papas armadillo flip. We absolutely love this and is a compact fold down system that doesn't require you to dismantle anything. We bought for ds as he hated his graco and he loves this. Can be used from birth

eatingforonemore · 12/02/2016 14:29

I can fit the Uppababy vista in my c1 but the carrycot had to go in the front with me (seat unit can squeeze in boot) and needs one wheel off but it takes 2 secs. I think the Cruz would fit better!

RvonR · 16/02/2016 17:58

The bee and the raspberry are definitely worth a look. The mamas and papas urbo 2 is really good, fits in my fiesta with plenty of room to spare. It has a calf support unlike the bee and raspberry, but only folds forward facing. It will take maxi-cosi car seats and you can get a carrycot but does lie flat anyway. I also liked the armadillo flip and armadillo flip xt.

strawberrypenguin · 29/02/2016 15:42

For anyone else facing the same problem (and in case anyone is wondering what we went for) went buggy shopping today and we got the Graco Evo Mini Stroller. It goes in in one piece with the parcel shelf removed!
Even the Bee didn't go in due to its curved frame!
