Pram suggestions for tall first time parents!

Hi All,

Come September my husband and I will become first time parents... all very exciting!

We're currently on the big hunt for a pram. We ideally want a travel system (so pram, pushchair seat and car seat) BUT we're very tall - I'm 6ft and my hubby is 6.5ft.

We want a pram that is comfortable for us to use so isn't back breaking and doesn't look stupidly small when we're pushing it! Many seem to now come with extending handles but we would also like the actual seat position to be high so save us bending over to touch and tend to baby. We've seen a Stokke pram that seems pretty high but do you have any recommendations or suggestions??

I'm 5ft 8 nd my hubby is 6ft 2 and we have the graco evo travel system and its brilliant, the handles don't extend but it's high anyway. We're not as tall as you but I've pushed it in heels and been fine.

We had a Mutsy 4 rider and my friends 6'6 husband had a go and loved it so they bought one as it was the highest they'd found.

Uppababy vista

Another vote here for Uppababy Vista 3 years on and using for baby number 2 it's the best purchase we ever made. Also my tall husband has huge feat and there's no bar at the back to trip you up like the others.

My ICandy Peach comes with these things called elevators that raise the pram and the seat up so you're closer to the baby - perfect for my OH who is 6ft 2 :)

Stokke Xplory is great.
Seat is high up and the handle height is adjustable too.
Very smooth ride on pavements etc

If you're going off road or very uneven surfaces it's not that great- but don't think many of these urban pushchairs are?)

My DH is very tall and we tried out the xplory in the shop. Seemed like a no brainer when we looked online. It was AWFUL. There is no way I'm standing around in the rain spending half an hour folding it when the finished article is as big as unfolded anyway! Others rave about it though and I don't understand - I suggest you go and have a look. We have the bjcmgt - chosen by DH and he finds it very comfortable and has no trouble getting DS out. From the car seat side though DH finds ort swivel seat significantly easier than the non swivel seat because of his height.

in my humble opinion there is no such thing as the perfect pushchair only one that best suits you and your lifestyle, all have benefits and compromises; so I would set out a list of what you want and what you won't compromise on and then go from there. If having a quick fold is important to you look at coming like BJ City GT ... if having a tall travel system is important to you look at Bugaboo Buffalo, Joolz Geo or Uppa Baby Vista

My DH is 6 foot 6 and our 1 and 2 year olds are off the height charts. We went for a bugaboo donkey as our main pram as it had the furthest extending handlebar and the longest carrycot/seat base as we suspected the DC would be tall

We also have a baby jogger city mini which has an adjustable handle and again had the tallest seat base etc for a buggy

6'2 husband, and another vote for the Uppababy vista. Extendable!

I'm 6'2, DH is 6'4", we've gone for the Urbo2 from Mamas & Papas. The pushbar is extendable, it's fab. It's gorgeous. The pushchair is also lie flat so you don't necessarily need the carry cot. Not the cheapest to get the whole travel system but it'll last.

DH is 6ft4 so we went for ICandy Peach, it comes with height adjustment bits that raise the seat higher for when he's pushing our DD, you can take them out too which is great for me as I'm only 5ft2!

DH refused to buy the Bugaboo Bee on the grounds that it looked like he was pushing a toy pram [he did]

We bought a stokke in the end and loved it. Just cleaned it up to ebay it if you are interested. I will shed a silent tear when it goes as we have to keep something but DD is almost 3 and so we rarely use a pram at all so the Stokke goes and the maclaren stays on space grounds.

It's a total PITA if you want a pram that you will take in and out of the car a lot though. Takes up pretty much a full size boot in a normal car. We bought a maclaren [which we hate as the handles don't extend on the version we bought so we keep standing on the wheels] which we keep in the car boot for short trips.

Start with the pram that works for your lifestyle and then see what height options are available. Its worth considering [not just because I am selling a pram] second hand or borrowing a pram as once your child is over 6 months, there are a lot of other options open to you.

We have been out and looked and where as the Stokke wins hands down for being the highest seat positioning I think it looks awfully bulky.

Our lifestyle is very outdoorsy, we have a dog that will need walking twice daily alongside the baby so we want an all terrain pushchair but will be in and out of the car a lot so not too heavy and bulky (plus we have a small hallway!).

Based on these we were shown;
Uppababy Vista
Bugaboo Buffalo
Cybex Priam
Stokke Trailz

From a height perspective, the handle is high and the seat height is good (not the highest but not the lowest). And from a looks preference and practical perspective the Cybex Priam is winning BUT it's SO new there are not many reviews at all to go on... but it's German engineering so it should be good right ;-) We've also had conflicting information about whether the carrycot can be used for occasional overnight sleeping or not so we're still on the hunt to get the answer for this... I am going to post again to see if anyone has this pram and can give me any pro's and con's!

Decisions decisions!

My husband is 6ft 4 and we have gone for the Joolz studio day. It works for him comfortably and it looks nice plus the carry cot is suitable for over night use so good for travelling and I haven't yet seen any bad reviews of it

The icandy Peach would be a great choice for a tall guy, im around 6ft 3 and have no issue using it or any back pain :)

Mamas and papas Mylo we have, dh is 6'5 and I'm 5'11, but it may be too bulky for what you want.

I've 5"10 and long legged, and have both the uppababy vista and a silver cross pop. I would recommend them both.

The new 2015 Vista is also a great pram to convert to a double with the new second seat option.

I wouldn't worry too much about the overnight sleeping thing. You tend to need a stand to make it suitable, and they don't fit in the bassinets all that long anyway, especially as you'll probably have a long baby! Moses baskets are easy enough to transport if you're travelling. I wouldn't let this be a deal breaker.

Second the iCandy - it's fab

Emmaljunga edge duo is great. Fits with outdoorsy, lasts forever.......mine has lasted 9.5 years and has been very well used on all terrain as well as taken abroad on planes. The carrycot is huge and can be slept in at night. It is soooooo weatherproof as it Swedish. It even has a built in mosquito net that is UV and covers the whole pram over........I love my EMMALJUNGA and the Swedes are really tall people!!
