Can you really not push a Maclaren one handed?

I mean without a struggle? I would be getting a Quest and would need to steer the (empty) buggy one handed while my toddler lies on the floor screaming walks.

I am tired of trying and failing to steer my BJCM one handed while also trying to steer my toddler. I keep crashing it in to things and it's a bit embarrassing.

Big canopy? You want a red kit zumi!

Oops, kite

The denim Quest has a big hood for some reason! Have you thought about the Techno XT? Looks much sturdier than the Quest.

Tarka - it's called the Dimpa storage bag, I think it's £3.75! I can't imagine the Bee is less compact when folded than the BJCM, so I reckon you'd be fine. You do need to pull it pretty tight around the wheels as you do the zip, but it fits just fine (I tend to take the front wheel off and out it in the bag).

I have the Maclaren XLR which I much prefer to the Quest. Both dh and I can push it one handed with DS in while we hold DDs hand - though she mainly holds onto the carryhandle at the side.

Re the dimpa bags, the bag is quite flat so stuff like the city mini, red kite zumi etc fit nicely because the folded shape is similar. The bee is a narrower and boxier fold rather than flat so I don't know if it would fit.

Op what about all the usual suspects like the yoyo, nano, recaro easylife, armadillo city (with some sort of sit up straps for the too reclined seat), a pepp or Babyhome emotion?

It's so annoying the denim Quest has a big hood and the others don't, I will have to buy a clip on shade which will annoy me.

The Quest was the model I wanted as I wanted as compact as possible but with a decent recline not that my son ever naps in the pushchair but once he starts nursery he might. I think I will find the xt or xlr too big.

Looking at the dimensions online I think it is a bit bigger and definitely wider. At £3.75 I might give it a try though! Otherwise I have a P+T travel bag which it just about squeezes in but not sure I'd want to struggle with it at the gate and it's quite bulky when empty.

Op I got my bee (first edition I think) for the equivalent of less than £100 second hand in a country where things are generally a bit more expensive.

I could push my Techno XT one handed no problem. Steered really easily. MUCH better than the cheapo Chicco umbrella fold I had, which I could barely push with two hands.

Gunpowder · 09/05/2015 13:26

I'd 4th/5th(?) the suggestion of a second hand bee. It's really, really easy and light to push, I never had a pram and went from sling to maclaren, we walk a lot and it was hard work to push, impossible one handed. Bee has been so much better.

I can just about push but definitely not steer my very battered 2nd/3rd/4th hand Maclaren Quest.

Not great if you're trying to negotiate busy London pavements.

TurquoiseDress · 10/05/2015 08:28

Will admit that my other pushchair is a stokke xplory which is light years ahead and so easy to push & manoeuvre- probably not a fair comparison!

silversixpence · 10/05/2015 10:51

We have a maxi cosi noa, it is a great alternative to maclaren, nice small fold you can do one handed, easy to push one handed, very light.they don't make it any more but there are usually a few on eBay at a bargain price.

I've just sorted the travel bag issue for the BJCM on a plane in a few weeks. Thank you to everyone who mentioned the ikea dimpa bags! Planning a trip to ikea now...

The XT has shaped rubbery handles which are much easier for me to steer and hold than the foam Quest ones. I can steer a XT one-handed no problem (while pulling a shopping trolley or child with the other), but not a Quest.

Baby Jogger City Zip! Tiny fold, single handle, steers beautifully and very light. Not parent facing though.
