Which double or Tandem to go for? DS1 is 2, DC2 due in 6 weeks!

I have rather been in denial about getting a double or tandem pushchair throughout my pregnancy but the reality that DS may not actually like the buggy board, or stay on it, or that it won't work well with our m&p Zoom is rapidly catching up with me! DS is a good walker but has developed a habit of just stopping and sitting down if he no longer wants to walk which could easily apply to a buggy board too!

We loved our Zoom for DS with the ease of using the cybex Aton car seat with it and having the main seat front or parent facing. DS predominantly used the car seat for about 6 months as I was often doing short trips out. This time there will be longer trips out to the park etc to keep DS happy but I would still prefer dc2 to be parent facing if possible.

I need to make a trip to kiddicare or similar and have a play with some of the different models but online have looked at Britax Dual, city jogger elite and p&t's but also at the out and about nipper and city jogger mini double. I prefer the concept of a double to a tandem but you lose the car seat compatibility and the parent facing :( so a tandem may meet my needs better but I don't know whether any of them are compatible with a cybex Aton car seat?? Also we really haven't budgeted for this expense due to my denial so will probably have to go second hand and may need to sell our Zoom.

Anyone with any advise or suggestions??

What about something like the easy x rider? I think the zoom should be fine with a normal board, how old is your ds?

Tandems are a whole can of worms when it comes to trying to parent face a newborn. If you prefer a side by side then a carrycot on a city mini double or nipper might be as good as anything.

Iirc the Aton fits on maxi cosi adapters, so although it won't have been specifically safety tested it's likely it would fit on whatever tandems have maxi cosi adapters available. The oyster max does for example.

That's interesting about the car seat adapters, there's not much info out there regarding the cybex compatibility (though it's been a great and well used car seat and v light too). DS turned 2 last week so will be 25.5ish months when DC2 arrives. I'd have made more effort making him walk recently if I wasn't so exhausted myself - just easier to pop him in the stroller at the moment!

Will show DH the easy x rider and see what he thinks. I have already bought a lascal mini buggy board though not opened it so could probably return it if we decide to go another route with all this. I had also spotted the oyster max. Think I need to go and actually see/test some of these pushchairs to see whether my hunch about the double vs tandem is right. And yes, parent facing on a tandem does seem to be less common which is a pain!

Thanks for your advice.

Yep, definitely go and see some, get a feel for what you like and don't like. In the past I have had a tandem for 2-2.5y gap, ds moved to a board at 2y9m, dd was about 6m older lazier and less predictable so more like 3y3m. Dd2 is the only one who could easily have gone without a seat from about 20m and she's as trustworthy now at 2y3m as dd1 was at a year older.

If you feel you will only use a double for a few months then the specifics of it are probably less important. If you think it might be with you for longer 12-18m say then its more of a decision iyswim.

Well a total twist in the tale as SIL has just offered us their hardly used P&T explorer so we will go with that. It may not have been my first choice but they won't let us give them much for it so it's the most economical option and our car seat will fit with the maxi cost adapters which is great. I did have a look in kiddicare and the oyster max is lovely though!
