Pushchair with a big hood, recommendations please!

In the 18months my DD has been in the world I've made numerous pushchair mistakes. Worst being paying £525 for a bulky silvercross travel system that I hated and I'm totally gutted because I could have gotten something far better for the price and sometimes I cry when I think I could have had a bee instead :(.

Anyway, a Britax b mobile, mothercare jive, icandy apple and cosatto yo later, I am in need of another (final) pushchair. My dd is 18 months and I;ll be using it until she is fully walking so I'd like something light (under 10kg) and a big/extendable hood is really important to me for the shade in the summer after various parasol fights.

And my budget is £200. Baby joggers and bugaboos arent very much in the minority round here so would struggle to get a second hand one, so looking from new.

I've been looking at the mama and papas sync, armadillo, the cosatto supa and the britax b motion. Any others that I should be looking at?

Thanks everyone for your advice :).
I have gone and bought the armadillo. It came down to the sync, armadillo or the jule. In the end the basket , hood and the fabulous fold of the armadillo won me over. It does look better in real life than it does in the picture and im very happy with my new toy!

I've been looking at the armidillo too

Even thought I don't need a pram

I already have two

strawberryswing · 02/02/2014 19:26

I don't exactly need a brand new one either. My cosatto yo needs to go in for repair and its obviously the perfect time to buy another to use whilst its gone ;-).

I will probably keep my Betty, I've always had 2 but one more wont hurt right??

I know someone who has 5 ...

Dd is only 10 months I think if I had three brand new prams before she was a year old I might get shouted at!

Also just come across the quinny zapp xtra which I now also want lol

bellablot · 02/02/2014 19:48

Mclaren XLR, the hood comes right over.

strawberryswing · 02/02/2014 20:08

I love the zap extra but they really need to release the folding seat version over here! I couldn't have and xtra because it doesn't fold in one piece and the normal zapp doesn't recline :(

I had 4 brand new ones before my dd was 1 and 2 second hand ones given to me before she was born. O was very grateful but felt I missed the excitement of going out looking and choosing a pushchair so I ended up buying loads. And my partner wasn't too impressed either but I get bored easily!

And this is the second one since she's turned one, this is my last though (I hope)

Sorry to jump in on this thread.

Strawberryswing, I know you've only just got the armadillo but how do you find it? My dd is 16 months and trying to choose a third pushchair and this is is my shortlist.

babyluck · 02/02/2014 23:08

Have a look at the Maclaren Quest denim version. Unlike the other Quests in the range it has an extendable hood. I have just bought this and I love it even more than my back.

Simplynails I absolutely love it. It really is a dream to push, the hood is really big so will be a great shade in the summer (if we get one!)

The basket is really spacious and I can access it beasy enough. The seat itself is big, v.roomy and I can't see it being too small for my 18mth in the next few years.

The seats really long too, once the footrest is up I think its 92cm long so my dd who is tall can still lay flat and not have dangly legs.

I have the coral pink one, though its not very pink and I read on here yellow attracts the flies lol so if possible have a look at the colours before you choose.

The one handed fold is Fab, (there's a video on the mamas and papas site) and its nice and thin/compact when folded.

Its only 1kg heavier than my umbrella stroller, obviously its wider but at 55cm its narrower than the big travel systems etc and its a nice width.

I had my reservations because I thought it looked a bit cheap, tacky and plasticky. It looks a lot better in flesh however it doesn't look hugely expensive (if this bothers you). Its a very simple design, but it does everything you'd want it to.

So its very sturdy, beautiful to push, great fold, great weight and width if you dont want an umbrella stroller but don't want to be lugging a hefty 3in1 around, great fold, huge hood, massive roomy seat without being a bulky pushchair itself, good basket. I'm very impressed.

Strawberryswing, thanks so much for that, really helpful. The only extra thing is how is the hood with raincover attached, as I have read this can be tricky?

I liked it when I saw it in store and really want something with the adjustable leg rest and decent basket that is easy to get at. This is probably gonna be the one.

strawberryswing · 03/02/2014 15:58

I've just tried the rain cover and had no real issues getting it on. The adjustable footrest really is good. My daughter is tall for her age (91st centile) and when the pushchair is laid flat and footrest up she still has plenty of room, nowhere near dangly.

Apart from my silver cross system which was huge this is the largest basket I've had. I would definitely recommend.

See now I really want one

It's the width

My dd is only 10 months and I already feel the silvercross zest looks a bit of a squeeze never mind when she's 2!

strawberryswing · 05/02/2014 19:01

This seat is just what you need. Very tall and very roomy! My 18month old has plenty of wriggle room.

So tempting!!!!

I'm guessing all the m&p universal footmuffs etc fit it?

strawberryswing · 06/02/2014 08:23

I'm guessing they will, I have a minene universal footmuff and a buggy snuggle and they both fit fine Smile

My daughter is 1 and I'm looking at getting a new pushchair, mostly because our travel system takes up so much room with all the bits we no longer need/use. The things I am looking for in a pushchair is an extendable hood, easily folding in one piece (not having to take the seat unit off) a good size basket, and either girly or be able to buy a custom hood for it. Many thanks.
