Bugaboo bee - tough enough for a midwinter baby?

Am due (1st time) at Christmas and was all set on the bugaboo bee as we live up 3 flights of stairs, have a small hallway and use public transport.

But am now worrying the cocoon won't be robust or warm enough for a newborn in the middle of winter. Anyone got any experience of this?

Am now wondering about the mamas & papas urbo or bugaboo chameleon instead, and getting very confused.....

Any ideas/experience/suggestions gratefully received by this first time mumsnetter!

I've just got the bee & I'm due in early December, will be watching this eagerly for others opinions!
The cocoon seemed ok to me warmth wise but I've also got an abundance of blankets in case it turns mega frosty!
I'm planning on getting a nice sling too so baby can snuggle into me on cold days to help us both stay warm

I had a Jan baby in one, I would bundle up with bankets in the cocoon and seemed happy under the hood. However I had a study double withheavy duty raincover that did offroad. It depends how much and where you use it. It wouldn't do muddy paths, snow or very long outings

The Bugaboo Cocoon is pretty snuggly TBH. My LO had one in his pushchairs when he was small. The Urbo is not the best pushchair TBH and its no less exposed really than the Bee.

Thanks all, I guess in snow I would use a sling but then it might be slippy underfoot. With the urbo the plan would be to get a carrycot, do you still think it'd be exposed tiggywunkle?

Probably not with the carrycot. But the Urbo has zero suspension and the brake is really bad. Mine slid off a pavement into a road with the brake on. The Cam is a much better option TBH.

Cocoon quite snugly enough. I took my 5lb DS2 out in his last December. If you add a snow suit and the rain cover to keep out the wind it's pretty cosy. If you really want a carry cot, I think that one of the baby jogger ones is designed to attach with the car seat adaptors so would work on top of the Bee.

We had an original bugaboo bee and the cozytoes liner that came with it (secondhand, but the c. £130 authentic thing) was v snuggly for DS1 - on extremely cold days I'd put a cellular blanket round him too inside it. The very sheltered hood and the rain cover meant I felt v comfortable taking him out on cold, wet and snowy days for long long walks to get him to nap so you may want to factor in to your budget a North Face jacket for yourself in case your baby is similar.

Ours turned out to be slightly broken so we couldn't fold it properly but it was lovely and light and the best buggy I've had for manoeuvrability over urban walks. It has no off-road capability at all though (beyond a well tended park lawn/path) and friend of mine has a later model which keeps needing replacing under warranty - we think local cobbles are knackerinf it.

I just sold a micralite toro carrycot to a woman who is planning to use it with her Bee for a new baby..so that could be another option.

Cocoon for the bee is fine, I had a January baby and she was very snug in it.

Lovely and light too if you're lugging it up and down stairs. I love the Bee, crap off road but perfect for town, great steering.

Fine for winter with cocoon, use rain cover to make a little greenhouse if its really really cold, it'll probably be drizzling at least by that point anyway :(

My DS was born last December and we used the Bee with the cocoon...it was great. Really snugly and warm. In fact, I've just got it out again and am planning on using it for the next few months, he's now 9 months and still fits in it (just). I'll then swap to the footmuff when it gets too small...the footmuff is also great for later down the line.

We had DD in the cocoon in the Bee all last winter. Even in all the repeated snow we had, she was cosy warm, and the wheels coped really well in the snow.

She also slept in the cocoon in her cot!
It's a great wee pushchair.

My DS was born in Feb last year and was perfectly snug in his cocoon. It snowed a few days after his birth, he was fine. He had a pram suit on too and a hat and didn't get cold.

Thanks so much everyone - you've put my mind at rest. Am going to sneak one look at the baby jogger versa which the John Lewis lady suggested as an alternative, but suspect I'm going to end up back at the Bee...
