Best double buggy for toddler and newborn?

My friend is having a baby in a couple of months, and her daughter will have just turned 2 when it arrives. She has no idea which double buggy to get so hopefully someone on here can help!

It can't be a side by side one as they live in a flat - there are about 6 stairs to get to the front door, then it has to be left in a small corridor so can't be too bulky. The toddler is quite heavy so can't be too lightweight either! Also obviously needs to have a lie back seat for the newborn, ideally one that can face mum.

Can anyone recommend a decent double buggy? Thanks

I have been mulling this over.
I think theres a few options but only you will know what will actually work.
The Peach Blossom 2 - this will freestand neatly when folded, and can be slung over one shoulder to be carried up the steps. The seat(s) can be carried one in each hand. You need to find somewhere to store the seats though.
The Baby Jogger City Select. Heavier chassis, but very flat folded. The seat units can be hung up on one of those over door hangers. I suspect the chassis could also be hung up, or else will prop against a wall or on its side. This gives you a parent facing option, but it could be heavy with an already 2 year old.
The Britax B-Dual - the width of this may be an issue, but it freestands neatly when folded (again only you will know if it could work). I suspect it may be too bulky.
The Micralite Twofold - folds down to a small freestanding column. Baby can parent face in the car seat or carrycot. Is easy to tow along, so I suspect should be able to be pulled up / bounced down steps folded easily? The second seat can be carried in the other hand or there is a built in board.
The B-Dual is the only one of these which doesnt need a carrycot for the baby.

i think i may be in the same position as you but i'm torn between the Apple 2 Pear and Peach from iCandy. we've got an old version of the Apple at the moment but hubby has very kindly offered to buy a brand new one for second bubba being born in October. I thought i was sold on the Peach but then the Apple 2 Pear came out but don't know anyone that's bought one of these yet so looking for reviews on it! i would definitely recommend iCandy as a brand, i think they were like one of the first companies to release a single to double in a tandem style. can't wait to see what you go for :) x

Look at the Jane Powertwin. I found it to be great for a toddler and newborn. It also has pumped up tyres so easier to bounce on steps.

We have a Joovy Caboose Ultralight with the extra rear seat to make it a tandem.

It is light and seems pretty sturdy and it does fold up small.

BUT neither seat lies flat - instead you have the option to clip a car seat into the front seat, facing backwards so you can see the baby.

I realise it isn't ideal for babies not to lie flat, so I guess it depends how long their outings are. We don't use a car much so DD doesn't spend a lot of time in car seat otherwise. We tend to be out for short trips to the park, etc, and she often ends up having a break from the car seat for feeds etc anyway.
