Mutsy Evo or Babystyle Oyster? calling Tiggy!

I've got cold feet about the Loola Up after reading lots of negative reviews and posts about it! So now I am thinking of getting one of these, as Boots has a good promotion on at the moment. It seems that the Evo is better built and has more seat positions but is wider. I'm short (5'2") and the handle looks very far from the baby in that position. It also works out slightly cheaper as the pushchairs are the same price but would need a colour pack with the Oyster too.

I like the handle on the Oyster better, and it seems narrower and I like that you can fold it rear facing, as the main reason I'm buying another pushchair is so it can be rear facing.

Which one would be better? I could also buy an Oyster much cheaper secondhand but as people have complained about the build quality I'm a bit nervous of not having a guarantee with it.

I've had my Evo 8 months now and really, really like it. It is bigger than the Oyster, but it is also sturdier and the basket is way bigger. My friend with an Oyster gets quite jealous. It's all very good quality, the materials are lovely and i find it light to push. I fold it in one piece rear facing, completely possible you just have to adjust the angle of the foot rest. My one quibble is the size of the hood, but I fix that with a muslin or snooze shade For me it was the best quality at a reasonable price. Hope that helps!

I have the Oyster and the frame is great for the maxi cosi car seat (with adaptors) and the pram. However, with the pushchair unit, it is bulky and cumbersome to fold down and really heavy and awkward to put in the back of the car. We only use our stroller now. With hindsight, I wouldn't have bought it.

I'm 5ft9 so a bit taller! However when my mum uses the evo she never changes the handle (she might just be being polite, ha ha!). I use the handle so its in a straight line with the frame. I've found the ability to fold the handle under the seat really handy on public transport and in cafes restaurants, suddenly takes up lots less space and enables baby to be brought in close to the table

That sounds like a good advantage, I might go and have a play with them both before deciding. I can get the oyster with carrycot secondhand for a bargain price though so not sure!

I love my oyster! Had one issue with the frame (broke the clip that holds it closed when folded) and babystyle replaced the full frame despite me having no proof of purchase and it being well-used (had it over 12 months at that point). I don't drive and can get nearly a week's shopping in the basket although if I need loads I take buggy buddy clips out with me just in case.

It can be folded in one piece however its definitely easier to pop the seat unit off and fold in 2 pieces as it is bulky as a one piece fold. It takes maybe 10 seconds at the most though to unfold and pop the seat unit back on :)

Hello.
I love my my oyster as nice and light and perfect with the maxi cosi pebble.However the carrycot was a waste of money as my baby would not go in it as preferred the car seat so used twice,total waste of money as also bought the colour pack for it..durrrrr..However now that my baby is 9 months and is a big baby I'm about to sell my oyster and car seat etc to get something else as in truth I'm a bit fed up of having to take the oyster apart to put in the car and just want something that will fold down in one. be sorry to see it go as I'm deco glad I bought it..except the carrycot..

As rock chick says,it will fold down in one but bulky. Anyone recommend what I should get now as I have a very tall baby?

Argh I hate decisions! The width of the Evo is putting me off a bit even though it's the same as the Toro. Also everyone seems to describe it as big! The basket seems very slanted too. I somehow still prefer it to the Oyster though, the build quality seems better.

My ideal is the Mutsy Evo seat on the Oyster chassis, which I ALMOST achieved by putting an Oyster Max seat onto an Oyster chassis but in the end I didn't bother. But that would have been perfection for me. I know Parties wont agree but I prefer the Mutsy seat to the Oyster seat - that extra recline position makes all the difference.

However, look at the Joie pushchair which Parties linked to above. She's bought one and I have been examining it from afar and think it could actually be the perfection between the Oyster and Mutsy Evo. It looks very like the Mutsy IGo which is always another option. The downside of the Mutsy's is that they are on the wider side (not enough to bother me) whereas (and I havent looked) Parties is obsessed with narrow pushchairs, so the Joie one must be narrower for her to have bought one!!

Tiggy what is it about the chassis that you prefer? I have read that the front wheels sometimes buckle, have you noticed that?

Front wheels buckle on the Oyster? No I havent noticed that, but then quite a number of pushchair front wheels will 'crumple' coming off kerbs if the kerb is too high or wrong etc. The Oyster chassis is just neater and I prefer the basket, but I would buy an Evo because the seat is much much better for the child and for me, the child comes first. BUT as I said above, I think I would look at the Igo and Joie as well and see if they really are a good combination of the two. I have seen the Igo and it did look great but the width I believe is the same as the Evo.

Ime many things with softer suspension on the front wheels will crumple like that. I found the oyster to be hard though, it was a more recent one, I believe they might have changed it since the original ones came out.

I can't say for sure how wide the Joie is until it arrives, it is either 56.5 or 59cm. I'm hoping the former obviously. I too prefer the mutsy seat unit, the oyster one is flawed, neither lie flat nor properly upright. As the Joie seat unit looks so similar if not identical I'm reserving judgement until it arrives and I can see it. The oyster max seat unit was fine though so if it's like that I'll be happy.

The Igo looks really perfect, except for the price! Love the colours and style of it.

Tiggy and others - do you think the Igo is worth the difference in price? Ie better handle, 3cm narrower, smaller fold. I can get the Evo for £205 (plus boots advantage points) which seems an amazing deal, whereas I'd
have to buy the Igo online at full price for £459!

I think I prefer the IGo although I have only used the Evo. The Evo is fab value for money - the seat is great, the push is good. I am not desperately keen on the long space between the handle and the seat (great for a buggy board) but the Igo has the telescopic handlebar and a really neat fold. I worried a bit about things falling out of the Evo basket, but the IGo basket looks better. I know Parties will say different but the 3cms width difference on a single isnt much TBH and I thought they were the same width when I saw them.

If you have the cash, I would get an Igo TBH. But if money is an issue, get the Evo :)

thanks Tiggy, if it was under £400 I would have justified it to myself, but I think its just a bit too much more to justify at the moment. the boots offer ends tomorrow so looks like it will be the Evo!

Will report back when it comes. I do love the Igo in Aqua though, if a good deal comes up I may still get one. In the meantime would it be odd to have the aqua Igo footmuff in my black Evo? (Not in this weather obviously! )

I've got my Evo..and I'm not sure about it! It is quite big compared to the micralite toro, feels heavier and is not especially compact folded. In fact I have struggled to get it folded as the buttons are all quite stiff but that might be because it is new.

I am wondering if I should take it out for a spin tomorrow which means I'd have to keep it as it will be used, or whether to return it and go back to the drawing board. I might like using it, I don't know.

If you're not sure i wouls hold off for now, i have taken things out before then regreted it. I got my joie chrome, really like it, which remind me i need to weigh it. It feels nice and compact, it's the same size folded as my britaxb motion (with bumperbar one) and folds with the seat of parent facing. It's not the same feel as a kore expensive pushchair but so far so good!

silver are you buying for parent facing? I've forgotten...

yes its for parent facing. I'm quite tempted to get the Igo now, although if i was sensible id get the joie chrome instead, im just not very sold on the look of it. a video would be great, have you found one?
