Buggy for 4 year old with big hood

Hi

I need to get a pushchair for my son who has just been diagnosed with leukaemia. He is around 16kg but not that tall. I need a pushchair that will take his weight - although I'm sure a 15kg weight limit would be ok. Also it has to have a big hood, or one that comes right over him so that he can hide a bit when he's feeling rubbish
I thought of Baby Jogger but would prefer something cheaper. I saw a Petite Star zia and the hood came right over and was quite roomy
Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Phil and Teds Vibe? It's lovely and deep, long led rest and huge pull down hood. Hope your DS gets better soon Thanks

Baby jogger city elite are fab ds1 nearly 8 jumps in his brothers occasionally and although he's a big lad, 5 stone, he's still reasonably light to push. We got ours off eBay

I have the Maclaren Techno XLR. Very sturdy and the hood unzips and goes further over. It lies totally flat too so he can snooze in it if needed.

I had a Petite star Zia and it didn't push very well. Really jerky and went wonky and DS was only young then. Baby Jogger is excellent and the hood is lovely. DS is autistic and needs it to shut out the world sometimes. Easy to fold too.

Much love to you and your son Thanks

I have a zia... Seat very roomy & lays back. You can get seat liners for extra comfort. Some people say they find it flimsy but I hang shopping on mine no problem. The suspension feels bouncy compared to other buggies but I don't mind that. Good offer in Argos at the moment I think, I got mine from Amazon best price at the time.
Quinny zapp extra now lays back & is similar to zia not sure if seat as big.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery of your son.

I have a zia and its fine for ds ( 2 ) but I wouldn't have said it would take a larger child . I also have a mothercare my 3 which is very substantial and would take a much bigger child . It has a big hood although not as big as bjcm . There are loads on eBay and they don't go for big money . Sorry about your sons illnessHmm.

I'd second a vibe. You can get them on eBay pretty reasonably priced. The hood is big and can be tilted forward to block out the world a bit and the seat is huge.

Very sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis Thanks

Thanks for all your kind messages and suggestions. I never thought I'd be buggy shopping again now that my youngest is 3. Hopefully it won't be for too long

The baby jogger elite would be ideal. It's good and sturdy and the hood is huge. My DD is a big 2 year old, already 15kg and it is no trouble to push at all. They occasionally come up on eBay a lot cheaper than buying brand new. Good luck with everything. HTH

I don't usually venture into this section despite being a bit of a connoisseur in the past but I am Grin that their is a pushchair called a Vibe. I thought it was autocorrect for Zia before I googled!

AudrinaAdare · 28/06/2013 22:49

THERE is

Tiggywunkle · 28/06/2013 23:26

If you dont want the larger Elite wheels, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT has a large seat too, and the hood comes right down. I had my 2 year old in the Zia last year and he seemed large for it at that point.
I hope your son does ok with his treatment.

My 5 yo (with sn) can fit comfortably in a britax b-smart seat unit. we have it on a vigour 3+ chassis. And it is easy to push one handed etc. it has a huge hood. And they seem to come up quite cheaply on gumtree or eBay.
