Silver or black - What's the most practical pushchair colour?

We're looking at buying the iCandy Peach 2 pushchair & carrycot for our first baby. There are only 4 colour options, 2 of them, although lovely, are too girly, so will be choosing between the black magic and silver mint. I'm drawn towards the silver mint but worried that it might not be as practical as a darker colour, such as the black. Any thoughts? Will a light colour show up the dirt more? We're hoping it will do (if we're lucky!) at least 2 babies Smile.

I like black personally. It means you have a blank canvas to work with if adding different coloured foot muffs/ parasols/ etc etc..

I wouldnt like mint green with a red blanket for example, I would have to vaguely co ordinate it :). But that's just me.

Out of the 2, I'd have black Smile We were determined not to have black for ours, so we had a deep red (and had a boy), but as PP said, you can add to black Smile

I thought silver mint would be a pale green, but it looks like a grey/silver colour on the icandy website? If so then personally I would go for that, it looks lovely and any colour accessories should go with it. I can't see that you would get the hood dirty unless you think you will be doing some serious offroading in splashy/muddy puddles! And if the seat liner got grubby you would just be able to chuck it in the wash.

Thanks, that's a good point about the accessories, although the silver mint peach 2 doesn't really have any green in it (it's more just a solid grey/silver, which is a bit misleading given the name) so it would coordinate with a number of other colours too. I just have a fear that a lighter colour would get grubbier quicker, although the woman in John Lewis today said the material was pretty durable and generally "dirt resistant"! My head is saying go black to stay on the safe side, but I do love the silver!

No problem! I would go with the one you love, otherwise every time you go past someone with a silver mint Peach 2 you might think 'I wish I'd chosen that colour...' Smile

Thinking the black seat liner would look good with the silver mint and as that would be the bit that gets more dirty could be slung in the wash, as mentioned. I'm swaying towards the silver mint again now... Smile

I have Black Magic and I am glad I do. I have played around swapping liners and hoods and the black base is perfect for that. You can add any of the Peach 1 or 2 - just check the zips if you ever pick up an older liner) or Peach Jogger liners or even the Strawberry liners and hoods. There's a lot of scope there for personalisation!!

Tiggywunkle · 10/06/2013 00:17

TBH I would get the base as black and buy the Silver Mint liner. The base is more likely to be put on the ground or into a dirty car boot (even clean car boots get mud or leaves in them in winter!) Like you say the Silver Mint liner can easily be washed.

I had a black pram for DS1 and I am sure the dark colour helped him sleep better in it. There is a theory that if its too bright and "exiting" they will be overstimulating and wont sleep. I managed to have plenty of nice meals in restaurants while DS dozed while other parents had to take turns to eat because their babies never slept while out. (for the same reason we never put toys in the pram or cot - keep it dark and boring!)

Thanks, still undecided, wish I could see them both together!

After much deliberation we're going for black, but will get coloured liners to brighten it up a bit, as suggested. I do love the silver but head rules over heart this time and the black will be more practical in the long run, especially if we use it for another baby down the line. Thanks for all the advice mumsnetters Smile
