one handed OPEN and fold for going on bus

Hi, most of the buses near me are older ones with steps.

are there any experts out there who can think of the best buggy/stroller/pushchair (whats the difference anyway?) for me?

It needs to be one hand open and close. A list of options so i coukd compare other features would be perfect.

I have Babyjogger city mini, never had/tried anything else. Baby joggers are the only one-handed close afaik, they have the patent. Mine's light, and I can open it with one hand as well (you just grab the handle and sort of flick it open). Downsides - basket is small and not easy to shove big things in. Also not great for small babies.

I would second the city mini. My friend uses it with her newborn and puts a phil & teds cocoon in it (think it's secured by using the D-rings on the 5 point harness but not sure). She is London and finds it brilliant for getting about, she has just sold her Cameleon as this has made it redundant.

The Graco Evo Mini is one hand fold, I love it, nice and easy. x

Totally totally used to love the graco citisport. Don't know whether or not they still make them as I had one for DS1 who is now 13 when he was a baby and I lived in London but before they had the easier buses.
It was so good that I kept it for DS2.
Then we had a gap and had DS4 who is now 4 but I bought a secondhand citisport for him as I'd loved the first one, the shopping basket was huge for such a tiny light buggy, it was sturdy, and you can close it with a twist of the handle, and then flick it out again with the handle.
Can't think of a downside apart from I don't know if they're around still

Maclaren Triumph and Quest are 1 hand and 1 foot close and open an have a strap on the back to carry it in your shoulder they are brilliant

Yep, you can still get them, a couple of people i know got new ones literally last week! I didn't know they were one handed fold and open,that's really useful to know.

Hi, thanks for the advice so far.

I didn't know the city mini was one hand open as it has an autolock and the gracos sound good.

Do you know what the difference between the citisport plus and cocoon is?

I just grab it by the handle, and just kind of throw it in the air almost, and it rights itself. That makes no sense but I don't know how else to explain it!

I have the babyzen YOYO. Very small folded, light, you need two hands to fold the handle, but you can do that with baby in pushchair, then pick baby up and collapse rest of pushchair with one hand by handle. It can be carried on shoulder with strap. It's not for everyone, as it's basic and simple but my dh uses it all the time.

I think in the UK pushchairs have to have a secondary lock, the city mini has this but it's been too long since I've had one for me to remember how it functions, I think there's something you have to do up when you open it? Poppers?

The britax b agile is very similar but undoing the secondary lock is a button that stays in once you press it then you pull the fold handle Technically you could probably open that one handed but I'm not totally sure how in reality.. I don't think I ever mastered it but it's a very similar thing to the city mini.

Yoyo is fab, I can't remember how to open it though (can't remember anything today seemingly), whether that is a one handed job or not. Also don't know whether they are actually over here yet, seem to recall timing being given as April. Worth a google.

my maclaren quest has lasted me 6 years and we have travelled loads with it - easily opened and closed with one foot and one hand whilst holding child!

the first lock is by hand and the second by foot when opening. very quick

if you go to a shop you should be able to try them all out and find out which works best for you.

Ihateparties, where did your friends buy their Graco Citisport from?

It doesn't seem to be widely available anymore and some of the sites its listed on look dodgy.

it would be great if you could let me know a genuine retailer.

Maxi Cosi Noa can be folded and unfolded one handed too. It also folds smaller than the BJCM so might be easier to negotiate on a bus, mine broke but I think I was just unlucky. Have a BJCM now though as on the whole it suits us much better.

nam I think it was ebay but I'll have to check with them. We have all used overseas retailers too in the past so will have a list of ones we have had no issues with. They did already tell me that they use two hands to open the citisports though, which may be a factor...

Ihateparties - yes definitely a factor as i wouldn't buy online if not everyone can open one handed without being able to test the citisport and i don't think you can buy it in store.

looks like I'm testing the BJCM, noa, yoyo, evo and maclarens.

The older BJCM without folding lock can be flicked open one handed, I have one for in buses and it is perfect.

You just lift the handle and it all flicks out and locks in place.

Baby jogger city mini. Nothing beats it for ease of folding and unfolding, and I've been buying pushchairs for over 15 years now. It really is the easiest to one-hand fold!

The BJCM is far easier to one hand fold than the Graco Citisport - I had one of those for DS1.

I really rate the BJCM, and I don't feel the basket is too small, despite having an older, third secondhand one. I can fit 4 pints of milk, 6 cans of fizzy and a 2.5kg bag of potatoes in it.

I have stuck a buggy weight on the front wheel and got two buggy clip things - like carabiners - and I clip the rest of my shopping to those.

I couldn't open my bjcm gt one handed whilst holding a child.. i'll have practise!

You could open a Yezz one handed with a little practise. The auto lock release button is incorporated in the handlebar. You will need to use your foot to press the frame open too though.
The fold can be done one handed but you will need to bend over well and perhaps use a knee on the frame back to click it fully shut.
