Why do people pay so much for 2nd hand Bugaboo Cameleons??

I've been watching 2nd hand Bugaboo Cameleon 2nd generation prams on ebay and they can go for a fortune!

One I was watching sold at the weekend for £770. It did look to be in good condition and came with a few accessories but still!. You can get a brand new cameleon 3 for £729, so why pay so much for a 2nd hand older model?

Am I missing something here? DH and I had decided to buy a 2nd hand Cam 2 ourselves as we didn't want to pay the money for the 3rd generation. But if there's not much of a saving to be had it doesn't seem worth it.

Incidentally, you can buy brand new Cam 2's on Amazon for £539 which makes it even more bizarre.

I think people tend to get carried away when bidding on eBay. That said I have a cameleon and its fab, we bought ours new from a Bournemouth shop online and had a wonderful deal that included a pebble car seat and adapters and a limited edition colour. We got the lot for the price of the Cameleon alone, so there are good offers about there. Personally I'd always prefer to have new but if I couldn't afford to I'd buy the best I could second hand, which is why I guess why so many people bid a lot on eBay.

That's what I thought. But if you can buy a brand new 2nd gen for less it just seems crazy.

We are veering towards just paying the price of a new Cam 3 now, I'm thinking the resale value will be really high if we decide to get rid of it after a year or so.

Confused I have just been checking out completed listings on Ebay as I want to put my Cam 2 on and they seem to be selling for next to nothing. I think since the Donkey and Cam3 have come out the resale has reduced a lot.

Really? Maybe it varies by area then.

This is the one I was referring to (I know its a limited edition which may have raised the price slightly)

I didn't do a specific area search I don't think I did anyway although I didn't see that one.
I got a bit disheartened after the first few pages where they were selling for under £200 so stopped looking. They are worth more than that IMO, was hoping for about £350 for mine, annoyingly it has sold for more than that twice to fake E-bayers Angry.
Someone offered me £20 for it at a nearly new sale!

Autumn12 · 04/03/2013 14:36

I haven't seen any go for under £350 myself. Were you looking recently?

This morning!

I just looked again and mine is set to search for things within 200 miles of me, so maybe that's why we are seeing such different prices.

First of all, certain pushchairs hold their value well including Bugaboo, iCandy and Baby Jogger. Other expensive brands like Bebecar, Mutsy etc seem to lose value faster. The cheaper brands may go for a tenner or go straight in the bin. So sometimes buying wisely can reap you money back later. I actually made a profit on my first Cameleon because of price increases, wise buying and selling etc.

Its also luck of the draw on the day on Ebay. The limited editions are always going to fetch more, but the accessories bump the price up. That one has a car seat, foot muff, breezy canopy etc as well and they all add up.

Equally people don't know there are sales, deals to be done etc etc and can end up paying more than they should.

Changed my search to within 200 miles and the one you showed came up plus a few others with a better value.

Cheeky I know, but if you are interested please PM me Smile.

My baby isn't due until August so I won't actually be looking to buy for a couple of months yet I'm afraid. If it's still available then I would be interested.

I have one to sell as well - no idea they were selling for this much!

Mine is not in pristine condition but were not asking much for it if anyone is interested :-D
