Recommend me an incredibly cheap second hand suitable from birth pram?

I've really screwed up this time I'm 27 weeks pregnant with a long complicated back story about why we're on benefits but we are its tough and right now I don't see a way out. Anyway basically benefits have been cut by £20 a week and I am now trying to figure out how the hell I'm supposed to buy a pram and cot on a stupidly small budget.

I've got maybe £40 at a push to buy one I know its going to be next to impossible but I just hoped someone out there will have had to do it before me and can give me some tips? I've namechanged for this as I'm ashamed of the situation and don't want it following me around MN.

The best pram I have ever owned is called a Bertini Bidwell and you can pick them up from about £40 on ebay, they are brilliant and if you walk everywhere you'll be as fit as a butchers dog pushing it.

May I ask if this is your first DC?

If so then you may qualify for a £500 sure start grant, although I'm not suggesting for a second you need to spend all of this on a pram (or anything else for that matter, shop on a budget and save some if possible)!

Do you have a local Facebook selling page?

There are often pushchairs going cheap on there, I'm off to view a Loola at the weekend costing £20.

Might also be worth looking at a sling :)

Look on eBay, you can search by items nearest first and there's always bargains to be had! I bought an unused mothercare cot which was local to me for less than £30 and picked up a really nice new mattress in the sales. As long as you aren't fussy about a particular brand you should be able to find a pushchair fairly cheaply.

We got an eBay britax vigour for 40 quid. Its actually the one I'd wanted to spend hundreds on first time around but a few years later and its cheap!

Nct sales or ask your hv if there are second hand kids equipment locally. Sometimes Sally army etc do.

M&p Luna, it's a buggy that goes flat. They're around £30 second hand I think. Last from birth till walking- even for larger children.

Oh and the Petit Star Zia is a good.one too, can usually get second hand for £30.

You may be able to pick up a second hand pliko pramette for around that much. Great to use from newborn and then converts to a stroller. There are loads of them on eBay.

There may be a pg crisis centre near you - there is one in my town & I have given them tonnes of baby clothes & a pushchair. HomeStart or your MW/HV may be able to help too.

Worth checking out as well is facebook selling groups in your town, I am on a few and there are cots/clothes/prams on for silly money as people just want shot of them. Charity shops also often have prams too. I have seen some locally for £20-40 pounds that have been very nice ones.

Just don't buy a 2nd hand mattress or car seat (though if a friend/relative gives you one & you trust that it's not been in an accident or is over 6y then it's fine)

Check charity shops and freecycle for bargains, Especially freecycle, some may be prepared to deliver and there are always folk desperate to get rid of outgrown baby kit.
