Would you buy from Preloved but pay through PayPal?

It's for an iCandy. Have seen pictures, looks in excellent condition, but too far away to collect. She would rather collection but said I can arrange a courier.

Where do I stand if parcel gets lost or if I am scammed?

Would you do it? It's £500.

I wouldn't personally, not for that amount of money anyway.

Daisybell1 · 28/05/2012 11:00

Would PayPal give you protection? What if you paid the PayPal with a credit card?

Could you meet halfway if you're worried?

khill3008 · 28/05/2012 11:02

I think you get the same protection now on preloved as you do on ebay.
More people are using preloved now as there are no fee's!

Isn't £500 rather high for second hand though? Ive never bought an icandy so wouldn't know.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 28/05/2012 11:13

I think they are about £800-900 new, depending on how much accessories you are getting. They do add up to quite a bit. Things like footmuffs, adaptors for maxi cosi car seats, parasols, etc.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 28/05/2012 11:14

But yeah, I wouldn't buy one unseen.

RnB · 28/05/2012 11:25

Thanks for your advice. I think you are protected through PayPal if you file a dispute. I isn't know that about Preloved, thanks khill3008

It's for the double (peach blossom) so £500 is quite good. I actually already have the single so just need this to convert mine into a double (iCandy is out of stock and parts are really hard to get hold of nationally). I then intend to sell the remaining single on eBay.

Hmmm, not sure...

Apparently can't get iCandy online (as per this article - click here), not sure how true it is. I think you can get the accessories from here though.

I've bought from preloved before (and ebay) and if you use PayPal you should be protected/OK. Check the sellers returns policy and advert.

I think I'd rather see it though too.

Good luck, Izz.

Tiggywunkle · 28/05/2012 20:53

I agree, with a Peach, I would want to see to a) check the handle / fold / general condition but b) be sure it's not a scammer. People are scamming iCandy pushchairs really badly at present. There's an obvious one in North Yorkshire on Gumtree at present that uses some old EBay photos.
I have had only refunded under Paypal for an item that didn't arrive. But I do not know how it would work if you weren't happy. Maybe phone Payal and run it by them first?

5inthebed · 28/05/2012 20:56

You would only be protected with paypal if you pay as you would Ebay (ie, not a gifted PP payment where you pay fees)

Personally, I would not do this. Do they have the pram on Ebay as well?

RnB · 29/05/2012 06:17

I decided to go and collect it, and pay cash. Thanks all

I'm glad you sorted it.

Just to mention that ebay owns Gumtree, or is affiliated with it somehow, or paypal does/is etc (sorry no idea of exact situation)

so if you buy on gumtree using paypal you can put in a claim if something isn't as described. They treat it almost the sameway as an ebay item, they have the record of the listing etc, and I actually had to do this last year with something that was described as brand new but had scratches all over it.

The lad clearly wasn't going to respond at all till I opened a paypal dispute and he had to refund everything. That was a great moment. Hassle, but got the money back and was a lot so very much worth doing.

Tiggywunkle · 29/05/2012 10:54

Thats good to know. I know Ebay and Paypal are linked (owned by the same company???) but its good that they can link into Gumtree like that too.

Hello everyone,

Hope you don't mind me joining the conversation at this late stage but I just wanted to let you know that if you pay by PayPal on Preloved, you get the same protection as if you had bought it on eBay. Therefore, if the item doesn't arrive, or if the item arrives but is not as described, you can raise a dispute and if the seller doesn't resolve, you can raise a claim. There is some more information here:

One thing to be careful of is not send payment as a "Purchase" and not as a "Gift" or personal payment as these are not covered by payment protection.

I hope that helps.

Ian

Oops, bit of a typo there! DO send it as a purchase, and DON'T send payment as a gift or personal payment!
