Pushchairs
From Bee+ to ? for 17 month old DS
RecursiveMoon · 02/04/2012 21:11
After convincing myself that a Bee+ would be the only pram that DS would ever need, I'm now getting a bit annoyed with it - the shoulder strap height isn't adjustable, and I'd like something significantly lighter and smaller.
Does anyone have any advice about what might be good? I don't really know much about what I should be looking at, umbrella folds / MaClarens (sp?)?
Or should I just keep going for a bit longer, how long will I need a pram for anyway?
nellyjelly · 02/04/2012 21:15
Maclaren XT or one of the cheaper ones. Everyone I know starts with one sort of pram and invariably they end up with a Maclaren of some sort. Easy to fold and lightweight. I have had my XT for 2 kids and it is still going strong. I used it up until DD was about 3 but tbh she wasn't really in it much by then - was just a back up if on a long trek out somewhere I knew she'd get tired.
RecursiveMoon · 02/04/2012 21:17
Yes, everyone that we know seems to have >1 pram too, I thought that we'd avoided that .
I'll have a look at the Maclaren XT.
RecursiveMoon · 02/04/2012 21:49
Ooh, Baby Joggers look nice too. I think that my friend has one, and her DS always looks really comfortable.
The Maclaren Techno XT looks great - I like that it has lots of different recline positions, but it'll be painful to spend lots of money on something that's the same weight as the Bee+...
Any other ideas? Is there anything (brand or feature) that I'm not thinking about?
HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 02/04/2012 22:04
I'd look at a BJCM or Micralite Superlite. I hate Maclarens with a passion though! :o

My Bee+ went to day and my Cameleon comes tomorrow
I am also currently umming and aahin between a Urbanite, Maclaren -except I don't like them-- and Zeta Vooom for a lighter option.
Ihateparties · 02/04/2012 22:27
Doesn't the whole seat back extend upwards so the harness moves with it?
Significantly lighter and smaller than a bee might be a bit difficult, they're pretty small and light- the techno xt being slightly narrower at 49cm and generally quite a different shape, ie shorter. It's 6.8kg without basket or hood, the bee + is 8.6kg total, doesn't seem like the XT would be massively lighter in total. If you really wanted to downsize maybe something like a maxi cosi noa (48cm wide, 7kg) a babyhome emotion xtreet (47cm wide, 6kg) micralite superlite (6.2kg) something like that?
Depends on specifically what you need it to do and what aspects are more important to you, what you have is pretty good imo! It's definitely lots smaller than almost all other rear facing prams.

Bjcm
4 wheels or wait until their new verso model hits shops later this year!
Out in US this month!

The slidy seat is part of the problem. Wriggly toddler and footmuff/liner equals seat slipping down. Plus the crotch strap doesn't extend long enough to get a comfortable fit when the seat is fully extended, well it does a long as you intend never to let your dc wear a coat .
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 00:26
Someone was talking about how they had unpicked the stitching on the crotch strap and it was much better. When does your Cam arrive? There's no sign of my Eeeee Awwww!
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 00:30
Tomorrow, I can't wait!!!!! Yes I thought about doing similar to my bee Tiggy - it's not the end of the world but once you've added a foot muff and a coat it's a bit of a arse.
Have you played with the bee with the footmuff on yet?
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 00:39
Hurray!! I look forward to hearing what you think of it....and whether you made the correct decision!
I haven't put a footmuff on the Bee yet - TBH I haven't used it probably for several weeks now....more than that....but I dug it out this weekend and want to put my new Electric blue hood on it when I get chance. I dont see me ever putting a footmuff on it though because I wouldn't use the Bee for walking - its not sturdy enough for me for that - but its fine for nipping too and from the car / shops / playgroup etc.
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 08:23
You need to have a play with foot muff on, then try folding it and the harness, also the universal bug footmuff is rubbish .... There is a reason so many people get custom ones
I can't wait to properly try the Cam
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 12:18
Ok...I will do. I can see that it probably doesn't fold as easily with a footmuff on - I bet it all gets caught up and is bulky....
Is the Cam there yet??
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 13:41
Did we beat you? My Donkey has literally just come through the door!!!!!! I had no idea when it was due so that's strange they should hopefully arrive on the same day :) They must have been box to box on the way over here :)
HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 03/04/2012 16:25
How can they forget to send a chassis?! Surely the seat on its own would have looked wrong to the packer.
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 16:32
they sent 3 boxes! called them today, they hadn't even put it on the manifest! They then said they'd despatch tomorrow and it would be with me on Friday! Except its a bank holiday. So delivery will be Tuesday. They have already collected the Bee so I am pushchairless
The Customer service rep is brilliant, she's really trying to sort something out, but their logistics is terrible, they don't appear to want to budge and put it on a overnight rather than 48 hour freight
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 16:33
Sorry 3 boxes contained
box 1 hood
box 2 fabrics /hood rods
box 3 seat frame
HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 03/04/2012 16:50
You're going to look pretty silly pushing round a chassisless pushchair for a week! I still don't see how they could have missed it.
Tiggywunkle · 03/04/2012 17:05
How on earth could they forget to send a chassis.
I have the wrong colour hoods :( So they didn't do too well did they?
I am still waiting to hear what to do about my hoods. At least I am not pushchairless over Easter :(((
Its just a bit frustrating because I really wanted to take it out and try it tomorrow. I almost just ordered two new hoods earlier but DH asked how much they would be and vetoed the idea! Ho hum!
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 18:36
I am currently impressed with how hard bugaboo customer service worked but appalled at their logistics team, whom it appears do not give a stuff about their front of house or customers.
Honeydragon · 03/04/2012 18:39
Hypatia ..... I did ask whether I was supposed to strap it to a skateboard
I now need to check their original manifest again and tick everything off.
Ihateparties · 03/04/2012 20:10
Eek, I stand properly corrected on the harness now, it sounds like a right pain in the bum. Guess maybe the OP might be better off making a change then!
How annoying re no chassis, how on earth is it possible to miss that part out?!
RecursiveMoon · 03/04/2012 20:17
for those of you with incomplete / incorrect deliveries.
Hmm, I hadn't thought of extending the back to see if that improves the harness situation . I'll give it a try.
I had to take the footmuff off at the weekend, as I couldn't get DS + jacket in with it on, grr. He's normal sized (I think)!
I'll check out all of the suggestions...
