Bugaboo gecko-is this a good price?

£140. Is this quite an old model? I just read the reviews on here and most are ok. Second baby so I fully expect to be using a smaller stroller type thing like last time within the first year but want a pram for very early on and for walks. Also like that this is also rear facing as a pushchair.

Its from someone who has a baby of around one so am guessing she got it second hand as don't think these are made anymore, anyone know?

yes thats a good price, they are no longer made and have not been for a while now, don't know exactly how many years though.

Thanks they must have been fairly pricey to begin with I am guessing! Now umming and ahhing over whether I should just get a city mini jogger and pram attachment but think that may be very expensive. I am also worrying about the cost of replacing parts but then I probably would only use it a year or so so maybe won't need to replace anything.

I looked at getting one with DD almost 4 years ago now. They were about £300 less than a Chameleon because I remember thinking it was a lot for a bigger basket and bumper bar! I think a Gecko was still circa £4-500 though.

Thanks Tiggywunkle. I think from googling that it doesnt have an adjustable handle so this is probably a deal breaker unfortunately. DP is 6.8 and I am tall so really need a high handle. What a shame. Unless anyone know otherwise?

I have a Gecko. It doesn't have an adjustable handlebar and it's reasonably high, but not for someone 6'8"!! Also, the seat sits fairly low to the ground, so the baby would probably feel a bit far from you. It is absolutely lovely to push though!!

One that may well be worth a look for you is a Mutsy 4Rider. They have good sized wheels (some air, some foam depending on model), apparently are lovely to push. The seat's a good height and the handlebar is one of the longest around at 114cm maximum. Most are around 98-106cm, so that's a huge difference. You can use it with a carrycot or carseat and the seat faces either way. The basket's not great but you can buy a huge basket to attach to it for about £30. You can also buy a FunSeat to go on it for fun when the baby's bigger. It seems to have a huge amount going for it and I was looking at buying one until I bought a Peach Blossom last night! Blush They sell for anything from about £80-£200 second hand depending on location, postage and what's with it.

I have been checking over a MyChild Pinto aka the John Lewis travel system and that's got a huge handlebar range. The Phil&Teds Promenade apparently has a high handlebar too. The Maxi Cosi Mura handlebar was pretty high too.

Thank you both that gives me a good idea of what to look out for. I was excited about the gecko but probably was being swayed by the bugaboo name! Tall handle height an absolute must so will keep looking for the models you have both mentioned.

So are ebay/daily info/gumtree websites my best bet for second hand prams do you think? This was via a friend of a friend which would have been nice and easy but I think it makes sense for me to buy second hand.

There's also Pushchair Trader, Preloved, FreeAds and Facebook groups. Look up baby/child/pushchair/pram with buy/sell/trade/swap (I mean lots of seperate searches) on FB to find groups. Also look at local buy/sell groups. I see a lot of really cheap puschairs on these groups eg. Maxi-Cosi Mura £45 and Quinny Buzz (in v. good condition) £45 just this weekend gone.

I enquired about a Mutsy 4Rider (no extras) from a woman in Blackpool who was advertising it as £125 posted, but I'm sure she'd take a bit less. If you're interested, I could link you via PM to her and you could ask her for photos if it hasn't already sold.

Thank you that would be good-although I may be too far away for her as am in the South East. I will have a look on facebook for the others too. A friend offered her jane slalom but I am worried it won't fit in my boot with the pram attachment bit too.

Tiggywunkle did you know the john lewis travel system 9just the pushchair bit) is on offer for £135 and the carrycot for £50/

Although maybe it is not the same as it seems to just adjust up to 106cms?

That's a different JL one, but also made by MyChild. This is the rebranded Pinto.

used2bthin · 17/01/2012 13:13

Thanks thats a shame, the other one is a bit of a bargain!
