Maclaren Buggies and Trapped Fingers!

Apologoes if this has been done before.

After spending months researching prams and buggies, we've finally ordered a Maclaren Techno XLR, only to be told by my brother: "Oh yeah, the ones that cut kids fingers off ..." Thanks, bro, helpful. Angry

I'm aware there was a fault some time back that meant unfortunately it was quite easy for children to trap their fingers in the folding mechanism but from everything I've seen of the new models, and the review I've read, this has been rectified.

Please can someone put my mind at ease and stop me from mentaling that all the good reviews I've read have just been written by Maclaren's marketing department!

They have completely new hinges now, but tbh I could never understand how people let their kids put their fingers there anyway, the issue was when it was being folded, and of course anything poked into a hinge will get trapped. I have an old style XT and no qualms about using it. Tbh I unfolded my friends Phil and Teds last week and that nearly took my finger off, the Maclaren is about as easy as you can get.

Thank you!

I did look at the hinges on the new model and thought, how the hell would a child get their fingers in there without me noticing, but being a first time parent, I guess it's easy to assume and you never know til you have one!

Anyway, thanks for allaying my fears!

I had 2 maclarens for my DCs, the dangerous models. No problems with them.

TBH, you should always have the child clear of the buggy when you are folding/unfolding and you should always make sure the buggy is properly unfolded before putting the child in it. This applies to any buggy.

Even on the old ones (and agree risk was remote) you could send off for covers for hinges. I love my maclaren so ignore your brother
