Hi Tiggywunkle, hope you don't mind me directing this question at you, but having read a number of posts within the pushchairs forum it seems to me that you have loads of experience when it comes to pushchairs and so you may be able to answer my question. Please anyone else feel free to post a reply too, and thanks in advance for any replies!
My question is: I plan to buy a Baby Jogger City Mini Double for my twins due next March, however, I'm wondering where to buy it. Is it better to get the 2011 model rather than a 2010 model? I've seen the pushchair on Kiddiecare for £60 cheaper than Mothercare, but it's says it is 75.5cm wide, whereas Mothercare says it is 74cm wide (I know that doesn't sound a big difference but could mean the difference between getting through a door or not!). Is it the case that the 2010 model was a bit wider than the newer 2011 model? Are there any other benefits of the 2011 model over the 2010 one? (Actually in Kiddiecare they call it the "sidewalk double" rather than "city mini double". But they seel the ame colour one in Boots and I was told that they're selling the 2010 model, though they say theirs is 76.5cm wide!).
I was assured that the one they sell in Mothercare is the 2011 model - though I don't know how one can tell - is it simply on colours?
Hope that makes sense, anyone with any advice? Thanks. Suex

The Sidewalk isn't actually ths City Mini although the differences seem almost unnoticeable. The 2011 BJCM has a board in the seat back for support and situp straps so the seats can be completely vertical. I'm pretty sure some colours have crossed over so you can't tell that way. To be sure, I'd contact the retailers and ask, but I think the 2011 is rare now.

Oh and I don't think the width has changed. The Sidewalk may well be different though. A standard doorway is 76cm and the BJCM fits through that if it helps.

Hi aswellasyou, thank for the reply. If you say the 2011 is rare now, is that because it is being superseded by a 2012? This pushchair buying thing is a real minefield! Do you know whether there is there anything to choose between the city mini and the sidewalk?

I meant the 2010 is rare now, sorry! Blush I don't know the differences with the Sidewalk, but I think it's more like the 2010 than the 2011.

There will be a new version of the BJCM, called a GT, out next year which has smallish air tyres and an adjustable handle, so should be quite a bit better than the normal BJCM. But I don't know if it'll be out before your babies arrive.

aswellasyou · 29/11/2011 18:03

It's due in the summer, sorry. This is it though.

SuperSue77 · 29/11/2011 18:16

Thanks for the information! I might be able to hold out until the summer - I am planning to get a second hand icandy pear so that I have a unit to take the maxi cosi car seats on it. It's likely that one of my twins will need to spend time in hospital, so I envisage quite a number of hospital visits with one or both twins in the car and therefore something that takes the carseats will be invaluable. I might try to get one which is being sold with the carry cots too, and with them being twins and possibly small, that might be a better option in the beginning than the bjcm, so I would be able to hold out until the summer for the GT - I could put my name down as soon as they're due out and try to be one of the first to get one! I like the fact it will have an autolock when folded, as that was one issue I had with the 2011 model I looked at, which you had to tie a stra around to keep it together. I'm planning to put my twins into nursery from 18 months, so will need to be flding the pushchair to put in their buggy shed, so that would be a real bonus to have. Thanks again for all your advice!

That sounds like a really good plan! I think I remember you coming up with the plan for the Pear chassis before. Seen as you won't need the BJCM straight away, I'd definitely hold out for a GT. It's sorted the few issues with the BJCM that haven't been sorted before.

Don't wait until it's out though. Contact some stores sooner rather than later, because they preorder them and you'll be getting one of the first ones available. If you wait then you may miss the first batch and be months behind the release date. It seems to me that independent stores tend to preorder pushchairs before big retailers. You may even get a discount by getting in quickly. Winstanley's, Lullaboo Baby and Twins Store all have good reputations and are usually hot on the heels of new releases. Smile

aswellasyou has done you proud there :)
The BJCMD is 75.5cms wide. An old standard door ie pre something like 2003 was 76.5cms.
I agree with you both :)
Get the Pear, or another pushchair for the car seat / carrycot stage and hope to get a GT when they are released. I am trying to find out the differences between the Sidewalk and BJCM. The only ones seem o be the obvious ones ie price and colour. Kiddicare say they take bassinets but apparently someone bought them and they didn't fit. So it's a question for anyone to ask if they buy a Sidewalk - does it take bassinets, and also if it as the PE board and sit upright straps. I would suggest it's a tad too early to order a GT - maybe in Jan / Feb - I think when you see more information appear.

Thanks to you both for your advice. Smile Will contact some of those sites come the new year. Thanks!
