Buggy that my 2 year old can't get out of...

My 2 year old is Houdini, he either gets out of the buggy we have completely by wiggling out of the straps (they are far too loose and the settings move easily therefore allowing him to make the maximum gap to escape).

His other trick is to put his legs behind the footrest and then he stands up whilst still strapped in and shuffles/walks along as I push the buggy!

Obviously I am trying to allow him to walk whenever practical but there are times when I need him to be in a buggy and stay in a buggy!

We currently just have a stroller type cheapy buggy from Argos.

Can anyone recommend me a buggy that has non easy adjustable straps and also no gap where he can get his feet to the ground please?

Have you tried something like the Houdini Stop to keep the straps across his chest. But if the straps are loose anyway then it may not be enough. There's several similar products - I got another one from Amazon - that keep the straps together.

The Baby Jogger City Mini or Micro has a solid calf area so he wouldnt be able to wiggle his feet down behind. The Micro is relatively cheap (usually under £100) on Ebay or I think Tesco or Boots may still have some, and should last you a while height wise. The straps definitely dont slide or alter easily.

Not heard of an Houdini strap, will see if I can find one to look at, although I am not sure the straps on the buggy are that great. Will also look at the buggys you mentioned. Thanks.

I am a real cheap buggy type of girl, never had to get anything fancy before! LOL

don't get a baby jogger!

we have one and the way the straps are make it really, really easy to get out. I am selling mine because we have the exact same problem with our 2 year old

the only one we can stop him getting out of is the ABC buggy which isn't the kind of thing you are looking for at all, but it has a ig padded chest piece with straps that clip into in (similar to the phil and teds) and we have made it really high up so that he can't get his arms out.

I would probably stick with a bog standard stroller if that's what suits you, but just try some out in the shop to see how easily the straps move.

if he puts his feet underneath just tip the buggy up slightly so that he can't and carry on walking. don't mention it. he'll soon tire of doing it

I have a Britax B-Mobile which has no gap to put feet through and the strap adjustment isn't slippy. I've also had a Silver Cross Halo that has no gap and the straps are actually quite difficult to adjust. They're made from really chick cotton, so the connector can't slide over the straps like they can on synthetic straps. I would recommend both of them for being compact and nice to push as well. The Halo isn't good for pucking bags of shopping underneath though.

I have a M&P basic stroller and the straps don't adjust that easily. It's still fairly low to the ground so he could probably stick his feet through, though.

Thanks for the ideas. I will probably buy whatever is recmmended second hand, as he will only be using it for another year or so anyway.

These all look like the sort of thing I was imagining but some are very heavy! My old criteria (before the escaping) was under £50 and as close to 5kg as possible!

or how about a quinny? That looks like it might do the job. But it doesn't like back fo naps! Arghhh, no wonder I have never entered the realms of fancy buggy buying...

I have had a bjcmicro and ds could get out in seconds. He could also tip it sideways.

I have a quinny zapp that he doesn't get out of but can tip it backwards very easily. I do really like this one though.

The nipper is good but possibly heavier and bigger than what you want.

OK my requirements are

  • DS2 can't get out of it or put his legs on the floor whilst buggy in morion.
  • Easy to fold as we do a lot of driving and then buggy riding
  • no need for all terrain, it's mostly school run and shopping!
  • small and light would be a bonus
  • would prefer if it lies back for naps

Petit Zia? The Maxi Cosi Noa? But without trying I don't know how easy he could get out of either of these.

You may be better with the zia instead of the zapp then.

The zapp is awkward to fold and doesn't recline.

I also have a nipper that I really like. It's quite light and very easy to fold and put up. It reclines fully too.

What about using with a proper harness as well as the one's fitted to the pushchair...I'm buying my second Nuna Pepp that covers most of your requirements but no idea if it's easy to escape from as i don't strap DD in...But the footrest has no gaps but the seat back isn't high for tall napping toddlers but it's probably on par with a Maclaren Quests size.

Extremely easy to fold, small folded though it's solid so heavier to lift than you'd expect but similar to a lot of umbrella folds at 8.? kg.

That's the newer model which lies back flat...There's quite a few of the model that M&P sold, on eBay...I'm selling mine soon...It's extremely nippy to push, in fact it's like a dream and i've fallen in love with it again hence me buying the updated model.

I'm not too worried about the height as he is on the smaller side of average. Smile

I have been to Mothercare and poor DS2 has been strapped into various buggies. He looked like he hated them all! LOL

He particularly looked liked he hated the Quinny Zapp, the seat moves?! Why?

But Shock at the prices of some of them! However, I was very impressed with how easy they are to push!

Mothercare's list prices are quite high so shop around and maybe do a price match. If you do pricematch at Mothercare, you also get a £10 gift voucher, but you have to make the original purchase online.

was thinking about this some more earlier and you might also want to consider the Jane Energy.

it's a bog-standard stroller but the seat is higher than most other pushchairs so I don't think your son would be able to reach the floor even if he put his feet through the gap

Thanks for the suggestion thisisyesterday but he actually standsup as the straps are so loose at the moment. He is not especially tall, just able to stand up as I am pushing along... grrr
