Phil & Teds sun hood - do you need one?

You could save me about 30 quid... I've just bought a P&T Explorer with double kit on Ebay and there's no sun hood on the second seat. Do I need to buy one or is there enough shade from the front seat? As it's getting towards winter I might wait and see, but if anyone has an opinion, please let me know.

How about saving me another £50? Have you used the baby cocoon? How useful was it?

if its the new explorer i would check that it wasnt part of the brake recall, there were details about it on the p&t website, i think they send a new chassis for the explorer i have the hammerhead and i had to send my chassis back to have a new brake. regarding the hood, i do use mine on the hammerhead as i always forget the raincover or sunshade.

firstly, i own a verve and the sun hood that came with that for the second seat was a waste of time, just got in the way and did not do the job anyway, secondly i have owned p&t's for a number of years now, when i first had one it was rare to see another and i have always used the cocoon for a baby, even when i had a summer baby, i just folded the top over, like a sardine can so baby did not get hot, it makes the p&t's so much softer and secure for a baby, and so much easier to get them in and out in the cocoon, so in my view don't bother with the sunhood, but def get a cocoon its a must in my eyes, but you could get a second hand one off ebay, they only see about 5 months use, so most should be in excellent condition, that would save you a far bit. if next summer the sun is a problem, one of these may be better

I go the other way to pramsgalore, my only criticism of my original E3 was the lack of sun shade for the back seat and so this time round I bought 1 and used it all summer. However the cocoon I had was outgrown by DD1 within 6 weeks and I didn't even bother getting it out of the loft for DD2!

graco do a cocoon thats a bit bigger, i bought one for my SIL for £10 from e-bay for her buggy, it had d hooks so could clip to most buggies. they are handy, if you are taking baby in and out of buggy all the time, like going to toddler groups etc but they dont last that long if you have an average/big baby.

I inherited an old p+t sport that came with no second sunshade but a uv mesh double cover which has been pretty handy (although it does make it look like you are pushing a hearse!) Otherwise I just hang my bag off the handle on the sunny side to block out the sun which usually works.

I loved the cocoon and used it instead of a Moses basket/travel cot but had months of use cos I had a premmie. A friend of mine with a huge baby ditched the cocoon and put a sheepskin where the cocoon goes and said this was great too but I've not tried this myself!
