Baby Jogger City Mini - bassinet/pram attachment as main sleeper

Hi all,

we have the Baby Jogger city mini stroller, and thinking about buying the bassinet/pram attachment.

Wondering if it can be used as the main bassinet for our baby due in October? To sleep in all night & let us avoid buying a separate sleeping unit til she outgrows this one.

Any advice on this? Thanks!

Whether carrycots are suitable for overnight sleeping is something I keep trying to research. Bugaboo and iCandy have some carrycots or mattresses which are specifically for overnight sleeping. But when I asked Phil&Teds / Mountain Buggy about whether their products were suitable, I was told there is no specific safety standard for overnight sleeping. I have tried to research this several times, last week was the last time, and I am struggling o find anything specific. I believe a vented base is important but it may be more to do with SIDS guidance than a safety standard. But I would love to know more of anyone knows different.
The Baby Jogger City Select only has a thin non vented foam mattress. I would suspect that either of the two City Mini carrycot mattresses is probably the same. You could phone Kooltrade direct and put the question to them. But in your shoes I would probably buy a separate vented mattress to fit (there's plenty of people selling them) and then I would probably use a carrycot. You may also want to ask Kooltrade about whether the compact carrycot or hard bodied carrycot woud be better. I would think the hard bodied one would be more sturdy but the City Select and Bugaboo Cameleon carrycots are fabric conversion kits and the Bugaboo one is fine for overnight sleeping.

Just saw a review on kiddicare.com of the hard-bodied carrycot, where someone posted that they are using it instead of a Moses basket. A vented mattress is a great suggestion too, thanks.

Just got a reply from someone at Kiddicare.com :

Unfortunately the Baby Jogger bassinet can not be used for your main over night sleeping unit as it does not have any ventilation. It would be ok for baby to sleep in through the day as you would be awake to keep an eye on baby.

One more update - just heard back from Baby Jogger and they were pretty noncommittal:

The Bassinet/Pram weighs about 13lbs and the Compact Pram weighs about 10 lbs. It has not been tested safe for overnight or longer extended naps.

I guess that answers the question then. I was chatting to someone the other day who said there are tests for overnight sleeping in carrycots but they are very expensive to do and aren't needed to get a pushchair onto the UK market. Before you give up though, I would speak to someone who specialises in ventilated baby mattresses and see what they say.

I was planning on using a Moses basket mattress in the bassinet for overnight sleeping on a 3 day holiday. Think I possibly won't now.
