anyone ever use a maclaren XT from birth?

my DD is just over a week old and we are not made of money- we couldn't afford a pram AND a pushchair so instead went for a pushchair you can use from birth as it lies flat and has a head cushion. poor little bubba looks tiny in it but it does the job! only problem is she doesn't face me, but then she's always asleep in it anyway.
i've not seen anyone else with newborns in pushchairs- we live in a pretty affluent area and everyone seems to have Quinny's so look at me with total distain when they see her in her pushchair.
Just wondered if anyone else used a pushchair from birth or if you were all lucky enough to be able to afford a pram as well!

I had my newborn in a maclaren pushchair from birth.
Not the XT, I can't remember the name xD (maybe quest?) but it said suitable for 3 months+.
I bought a head support to put in it for the first few months and it worked fine.

I didn't care what people thought =], I love my awesome red and black pushchair. And I haven't wasted money considering he is still using it now at age 2.

With first child (ds), I had a pram that my cousin passed on to me. We then bought a maclaren xt when ds was around 3 months old.

When I had second child, I didn't use the pram at all and put her straight into maclaren xt - so much easier to use, folded away nicely, lighter etc etc. I just wished that we'd bought and used the maclaren straight away with ds. When I had to take the 2 children out together (ds was still quite little), I used a double buggy (bought from charity shop) and dd faced away from me anyway.

As you say, when they're newborn, they're asleep most of the time in the pram/buggy/whatever. Then when they're a little older they seem to like looking at other things.

Honestly, go for what suits you. Yes, it might be nice to have a lovely pram but we can't all afford all the different things. Babies are expensive and we need to decide how best to spend the money.

The maclaren xt is fab 'cos it takes them from baby 'til they can walk. Ours lasted quite a few years and, if we should suddenly find ourselves expecting another child (highly unlikely now ), that would be the only buggy I would buy.

Sil did and found it fine although she did add a sheepskin to make it cosier for a newborn. I've seen plenty of babies in them and my only judgy moments come when they are slumped in a 'sitting' position. Fold up neatly and will last you until DD is 4 or so.
You can get bargain parent facing prams on ebay.

I also used a sheepskin for extra comfort. Loved my XT. When dc very small I used a sling more than the buggy.
Everyone gets a stroller in the end so why spend hundreds on something you use for such a short time.
The XT goes flat for sleeps, still useful when they are older and your bugaboo lot are napping with their heads lolling around at 6 months.

Also very easy to use around London transport.

Yes, I have the XLR (not sure what difference is?) anyway similar model used it from birth with a sheepskin insert. It also came with newborn insert mat and headhugger. Lies completely flat. DD has always been really comfy in it, and now 16 months and still fits it perfectly.

I did loads of research when pg about the best type of buggy to get and everyone I knew who already had a baby said get a maclaren. I love them and happily swing it in the car (smugly!) whilst the bugaboo crowd spend half an hour whipping off the wheels and cramming theirs in the boot!!

xt from birth here too. great buggy, except our handles went a bit sticky. although I couldn't bear to put ds1 in it when he was really tiny so ended up using a sling for the first few months

I agree about having a sheepskin liner, I didnt with dd and it made all the difference when i got one for ds

Yes I did too, with the sheepskin thing. Loved it. So easy to get about with on public transport- agree it was best buggy ever!

Yes from birth with both my two, also used sheepskins. Both were in slings far more than in pushchair, but were both perfectly happy when they were in it.

Both also had all their daytime naps in it until the age of about 18 mo, so easy to rock them to sleep while mnetting

XT from birth for all of my DC too, just laid it right back and used in conjunction with a buggysnuggle. Lovely and comfy.

I've got a sling too which little one seems to love- she just sleeps in it the whole time, but I feel guilty with her in it when i'm out walking around as she seems to bob all over the place! perhaps i have it too loose, lol
