Maclaren Volo or Triumph - please help me decide!

I have decided I am getting a new stroller for ds2 who will be 2 in a couple of weeks.

I currently have a very heavy P&T and a 10 year old Maclaren (don't know which but similar to triumph) that has worn wheels, no hood (or raincover) and smells.

It is very hilly where I live so I wanted the lightest pushchair I could find which seems to be the Volo BUT it doesn't recline. So those of you that have had either, is it worth paying an extra £15 for one that reclines a little bit?

These are the ones I am looking at...

Perfect sense. Good plan.Smile

Well I have returned the store bought pushchair with no problems - now I just want the delivered one - RIGHT NOW!!!

Absolutely same here - how slowwwwww are mothercare on delivery!!! Angry

Okay - I KNOW standard delivery can take four days - usually despatched next day for the triumph but really - they could do better!!!

Although they did have the very lowest prices (else I would not have shopped with them!).

My triumph is not yet despatched. The XLR I ordered earlier was despatched THURSDAY last week - and STILL hasn't been delivered.

BOOO

There's NO point me calling them is there....I mean - it's still not the END of the estimated delivery time - I just expected faster delivery.

Bloody hope they don't turn up with TWO buggies together when DH is here - he doesn't know about either!!! (no point discussing buggy purchase with someone who'd say NO beforehand eh!)...((besides he didn't discuss taking up smoking again with me before he did it either - so he's no leg to stand on - perhaps I should get him a buggy too....!) Wink

I have even tidied up DS's room making space at the side of his wardrobe near the wall to put hide them neatly away!
I actually can't wait to begin using the XLR for the school run - the BJ Summit is a bit "overkill" for a pavement walk from home to school - and I can't get around the shops very easily with it. I keep getting lots of withering looks from grannies when I get in their way with it!
I have the say the BJ summit is perfect for adventures in open spaces though - anywhere rough off-road, beaches, woods etc...(where I feel the maclarens might fail miserably).

Mothercare obviously have their ear to the ground and heard my rant..because they just delivered the xlr Blush
I have to say I'm v pleased. It's such good quality. I could barely carry it boxed mind. Not terribly lightweight. These things are all relative mind.
I'm super impressed with the all round suspension and manouverabulity. For the school run this is lovely. I could get on the bus with it, or accept a lift home too (from the school gates from a friend you understand. Not just randomly!
I have to say its at least as good as the bee on manouverability and suspension. Also love the new one handed recline.
Still looking forwards to the supelight triumph too though.

Just got shipping notice of the liner from MC. Stroller is coming seperately. However stroller is noted as "triumph racing green hinge" ... so if that means old stock with old hinge I will be a bit dissappointed. Especially if those in store are new hinge models at same price.

nicolamumof3 · 23/05/2011 21:11

they should be latest stock i've always had latest version with mothercare.

always found the xlr a bit heavy tbh for a stroller and no one hand push at all so had to get rid of mine unfortunately. Can't wait to start all over again with macs tho..dc4 due in July and so far only have one pushchair.

MonkeysPunk · 23/05/2011 21:29

I ordered an "owen" a few months back, but returned it as it had old spoke wheels, old hinges and old harness type. Not at all like the photo they were displaying.
I just feel a bit uneasy with the way they have specifically written "hinge" in the description on this email saying its from a seperate courier to rest of order. As this was the one area of doubt.

MonkeysPunk · 23/05/2011 21:31

Congrats on dc4 due July BTW! X Grin

BadRoly · 24/05/2011 13:44

I got my despatch email this morning for the pushchair but the liner is coming seperately! I have confidence it will be the right model - if not I know where I can exchange it... Wink

I just got another despatch email - with a tracking number for the parcel. I guess I will keep the stroller whichever model I get - I'm sure they'll supply hinge covers even if it's the older style. I plan to get the green hamster bags for it too - as they are a real help if you have stuff to carry around and want to use this type of stroller. As I have older kids too - I'm always being given extra stuff to carry (coats/jumpers/toys/drinks etc). I've now used my XLR twice - (4 miles total) and still think it's lovely - and - having owned bugaboos I can't help thinking what marvellous value the Maclaren's are now too! Really good quality, functional and useful - and really durable.

Hoping mine arrives tomorrow (a nice quiet day for me for once).

BadRoly · 24/05/2011 21:05

Funny - I had a second email too with a tracking link and telling me it should arrive by 26th... Nothing yet for the liner though...

Hope delivery is tomorrow though!

MonkeysPunk · 25/05/2011 18:29

Mine just arrived. It is the very. latest model so a true bargain. It's also really lovely and lightweight. I do like the seat, nice and comfy. Top value for money which makes me very happy.
The shade of green is rather lush too. A real classic.
I only had a little maclaren like this for my eldest and never felt the need for any other ever. Used it from about twelve weeks old for her. Back in the 1990's before laying babies flat was the fashion.
It's so perfect it almost makes me want to manage with only this again.

BadRoly · 25/05/2011 18:41

Excellent - did the liner come too? I think I missed mine, I had a note for a missed delivery while I was on the school run. It said 2 packages!

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 25/05/2011 19:49

Yes - the liner came too - same courier different package.

I'm so thrilled with it - as it's lovely and light - and has the carry strap - but the shade of Green is just so pretty - it's really nice - not too bright, not too dark. Did I mention green is my favourite colour?

I'm looking forwards to getting out and about on the trains next week during half term knowing I can totally manage with this buggy being so light - and that I can carry it over my shoulder if I need.

I ordered the Green Hamster Bags to go on it as I find them really useful on my XLR - and don't want to have to keep transferring them. They do seem pricey - but then are so useful and well made I do think they're totally worth it - considering how much easier it is having a balanced buggy that won't tip!

MonkeysPunk · 25/05/2011 19:51

Sorry you missed your parcels - mine came about 2 minutes after I went to the post office - but luckily my teenager was home to answer the door and sign for all the parcels.....she said 2 couriers turned up at once - there were 4 parcels as we have birthdays in our house next week too! Blush

BadRoly · 26/05/2011 14:19

Mine has arrived with liner - I am delighted :-D Thank you Monkeys for pointing out the liner thing on Mothecare - I already liked the pushchair but the liner finishes it off perfectly. I shall be taking another look at those pocket bag things later...

MonkeysPunk · 26/05/2011 15:23

We made an excellent saving of £50 off the full retail price of buggy and liner! Awesome.Grin
