Which is better for running with - MB urban or Jane slalom?

I'm looking for a second hand jogging buggy and have narrowed it down to these two, but I have read a few reviews about the Jane front wheel wobbling at speed.

I'm wondering if anyone who runs with either can tell me what is good & bad about them. My priority is running (4-6 miles 3 times a week) but I also want to take it on the beach or tracks, and it would be good if it was easier to fold and put in the boot of my midsize hatchback than my Silver Cross linear freeway (which is a real pita to dismantle and fold).

Thanks!

I don't run but used to lurk on US stroller boards (don't ask) and there was a lot of advice flying about on running/jogging strollers. Most three wheelers are NOT suitable for running/jogging and it wouldn't be safe for baby to be in the stroller whilst you were running due to the lack of suspension.

You would be better off with a dedicated running stroller like a Schwinn, Baby Jogger Performance series or a BOB.

Here is an article about choosing a running/jogging stroller which might help.

Thank you TruthSweet, those links are great. I had looked at specialist running buggies but I'm more of a plodder and not sure I need such specialised kit. Also both the MB and Jane have rear suspension which I think would be ok?
Forgot to say before that DS is 10 months so head control etc not such an issue.

I think part of it is also the wheel size - Mountain Buggy Urban is 12" and Jane Slalom is ~10.74" - the Schwinn is 16" front/20" back. the BJPS is 20" all round and the BOB is 16" all round - the bigger the wheel the smoother the ride for baby.

Out of the the MBU or the Jane I really wouldn't pick either as they have swivel wheels at the front which again are a bit of a no no for running/jogging.

Would one of these be suitable?

One

Two

Three

Four

Five

Jane slalom swivel wheel can be locked if you're running.
Great all round pram but I didn't run much with it (not really a runner).

Ooh yes I'm liking the Baby Jogger II (links three and four), seen some good reviews of these. Will def look at these in more detail, thanks.
Both the Jane slalom and Mountain Buggy urban have lockable front wheels for jogging or off road, so their descriptions (and meala!) say.

Hi applejelly. I too am a plodder. Even so, you really need 16" wheels for proper plodding. Check out the site www.joggingstroller.com/home.jsp. There's a "what you need" thingy and at the end it spits out strollers that best suit your needs - not all are easily available in the UK but at least you'll get a better idea of what to look for. I have a BOB SUS D'luxe but I'm a Yank and had ways of getting it ordered and shipped. They occasionally pop up on ebay uk. I've seen people jogging with a MB and with the 12" wheels it just looked awkward for everyone. The other advantage to investing in a "real" jogging stroller is that they work well as "off road" or "beach" strollers.

Good luck.

Thanks laraeo, sounds like I need to go for a proper jogger after all. Baby Jogger seems to be the most easliy available 2nd hand here so that's probably what I'll go for.
Thanks everyone!

Just in case you didn't think of it (I didn't until it happened Blush), make sure you carry a spare tube & portable air pump - or some sort of tire patch kit for in case of tire disaster.

Happy Plodding!

we have a out n about nipper sport and i have done several runs now and it's great, it's also fab on the beach and off road but not good round town as there is no swivel wheel. The 16inch wheels are good and DD2 sleeps like a log in it - £199 from practical pushchairs!

MBU is fine for running, just fix the front wheel but the new terrain would be better wiht 16 inch rear wheels and front wheel tracking. I can run quite happily with my urban for a very easy 5 miles/quick 40 min run, fab on our beach too Smile

Just an update - have bought a Mountain Buggy Urban from ebay. Hope to get it later this week and will update again once I've been for a plod!
Thank you all for your advice Smile
