Bugaboo Chameleon carrycot for new baby sleeping

Baby due in 3 weeks time and I was wondering if anyone had used the carrycot as a substitute for their Moses basket?

Would it be ok for baby to sleep in the carrycot, instead of a bedside crib, and, if yes, for how long?

Also, if anyone did this, did you buy a different mattress?

What I don't want is to have to buy a Moses basket if I can use the carrycot on a stand instead.

Thanks in advance.

Yes I believe the Chameleon carrycot is approved for overnight sleeping. I asked about this and was shown the breathable mesh inside a few weeks ago that apparently means it's ok. My own child slept in the carrycot overnight because it was ok to do so.

Yes you can. It's really good to get extra use from the carrycot this way as babies grow so fast. Seems daft to spend out on an additional Moses basket too. Just make sure you have enough sheets for the mattress as you are using it day and night too.

The fact that it's approved for overnight sleeping is one of the reasons I bought the Chameleon ? I had no worries about how long DD spent sleeping in it during the day and used it as a travel cot. I did buy a moses basket for DD and she lasted in it until she was four and a half months whereas DS is long and outgrew it by the time he was eight weeks! But he still fits in the Chameleon at five months (just).

I would just check whether the Chameleon is approved for everyday use rather than just occasional though as I know they say you should only use a travel cot for up to two weeks at a time.
