Micralite footrest release mechanism broken :(

Have a Micralite Fastfold and whilst on holiday we broke the footrest release mechanism which allows it to be folded quickly and one handed.

There is a red bracket on the inside of the footrest which holds the wire from the lever on the back of the pram. When you pull the lever, the wire shortens and pulls this red bracket out and allows the footrest to close.

This has broken in two and so we have to manually pull this red lever on the footrest which is a major PITA. Looking to replace this piece and I wondered if anyone has had any success in doing something similar or if I'm going to have to get it done by Micralite?

It's fine - just ring Micralite and explain what's happened (helps if you can send a photo) and they send you the new part.

We had to do this when our footrest mechanism broke, but it was really simple to fix and the part cost about £5 (will depend exactly what's happened - I can't quite visualise it from your post. Is it the wire that's broken or what? Ours it was the red bit had split).

I think if our buggy had been newer they would have given us the part for free, but ours is nearly 5 years old and I think they thought (justifiably!) that after 5 years it was no longer their problem... Grin

If you and your DH are not handy then probably a competent bike shop could do the job (it's the same mechanism used in bike brakes). Just take the spare part in and see if they're prepared to have a go.

Thanks for your reply theyoungvisitor! Exactly the same has happened to ours - the red bit snapped in two :( Good to hear it's a simple job to fix! I've now emailed Micralite and they've asked me to call them so they can sell me the replacement bit. Fingers crossed that's all that's gone on it and not the wire bit as well...
