Pushchair for very tall parent?

Underachieving · 28/03/2011 19:23

I currently have a Mamas & Papa's Pilko Pramette which has a handle height I measure at 107cm. I understand this is tall for a pushchair. Because the handles are tilted so much upwards it doesn't feel like it! (See pic here.) In reality, my hand comes into contact with the handles from about 101cm, so it's probably more like pushing a 104cm high straight-across type single handlebar. This puschair is really causing me backache now. I have had enough of it. Even a sling is better than this!

I want a new pushchair to replace the M&P. The new pushchair needs to be at least the same handle height, far better if possible, in fact in an ideal word about 20cm better, but I realise that's probably impossible.

Baby is almost 6 months, so pushchairs suitable from 6 months are fine.

If that pushchair is either under £150, or folds up small to store so much the better but top consideration, over ruling everything else, is how tall it is.

If you have any suggestions and don't know the exact height please reply anyway, I can easily google it. Any suggestions gratefully received.

My best friend (6 ft 2) pushed my DS in his buggy today. She was surprised how high the handles came (the main consideration for why she bought the pram she did for their unborn DC).

We have the MacLaren Techno XLR. They are expensive, so I'd first recommend looking at other Maclaren's and go from there.

Hope you get on ok!

Baby Jogger City Mini - 107cm
Maclaren XLR - 110-114cm
Jane Energy - 107cm

Thanks tigermummy35. I looked it up. They claim a handle height up to 111cm, so that would be an improvement. I'm looking at the full range of Maclarens online now.

I've looked up all the Maclarens I can find and I have also looked at the Baby Jogger City Mini and Jane Energy, thank you upyourdiva too. That XLR really seems to be way taller than anything else out there that I can find so far. I am still looking, but so far it seems to be the only serious option.

I am 5ft 10 and the Maclaren XT is the one we use and think it is the highest I found. Also is a great pushchair.

upyourdiva · 28/03/2011 21:29

Ebay XLR £130 inc delivery

I know it seems a lot but Maclarens do tend to hold their value and the coffee/blue colour is lovely for boy or girl.

tigermummy35 · 28/03/2011 21:40

They are also guaranteed for 4 years, if you get a new one. I'm planning on making ours last for 2 DC's!!

The XT and the XLR are essentially the same (as I understand) but the XLR can be used with a car seat (not that we do) attached.

upyourdiva · 28/03/2011 21:51

Yes the XLR can be used with the Recarro car seat or the XLR carrycot for a newborn.

The XLR is bigger and heavier than the XT but has a larger seat (wider and taller) and comes with accessories inc footmuff/liner.

The handle height of the XT is 107-110cm but these are not so angled which means it is straight height. It is also considerably cheaper.

Underachieving · 28/03/2011 21:53

They seem to have the same handle adjustment mechanism, but according to what I can find online not the same handle height. The XT is coming up at 105cm to the XLR's 111cm. Will keep looking though as the XT is far cheaper.

Sorry, cross posts with upyourdiva. Diva, where are your height figures from? You seem to be getting far less fuzzy numbers than me.

the urban detour mountain buggies are heeeeyuge! but I don't think they make them any more. you can probably buy a nice one second hand. Honestly, I had to have the handle on the very lowest setting.

upyourdiva · 28/03/2011 22:05

Just typing 'pushchair name' handle height and it is coming up with answers as I am reading down the results.

A Stokke xplory.

Fumblina · 28/03/2011 22:10

Mothercare My4 is 108cm. No experience myself as am a shortarse but my friend has it as her DH is very tall.

fallingandlaughing · 29/03/2011 19:39

I am 6'1".

We are blowing the budget and getting a Stokke Xplory. Not only is there a good handle height, the actual seat/carrycot bit is adjustable and comes up really high.

fallingandlaughing · 29/03/2011 19:39

just saw your budget - ther are some for sale on ebay and gumtree.

MonkeysPunk · 29/03/2011 20:40

Mutsy 4rider light has a very tall handlebar.

EsmeWeatherwax · 31/03/2011 16:41

I have a Techno xt I'm 6ft and dh 6'5, find it to be the highest I have seen, used to have the pramette as well, until it started breaking my back! The XT is very much lighter and is much nicer to push than the pramette, would definitely recommend it for taller folks!

cleanandclothed · 31/03/2011 16:44

We bought a Stokke on ebay. DH is 6'6''.

stratfordgirl · 17/03/2018 00:17

Does anyone know of a device to attach to buggy handlebars to make them higher? I'm medium height but have a long stride and pushing pram is now giving me extreme backache. Desperate to sort this...
