So Maclaren Techno, is it worth it?

Hello,

I've currently got a Quinny buzz (which lives in my car) but I'm after a more light weight stroller that I can just sort of chuck up and go with. The Quinny takes a lot of messing around with as my boot is so small that I have to take the bloody wheels off to fit the thing in.

My SIL fitted her Quest in the boot of my car today (with one fold and no taking sodding wheels off) and this has prompted a bit of an internet search into the Maclaren. I like the look of the Techo, is it any good?

You won't get a vote for it from me. I hate Maclarens with a passion. They're horrid, wobbly, creaky efforts which are the Mondeos of the buggy world. (Sorry to anyone with a Mondeo)

I've got a M&P Ziko which I love. It's the only lightweight buggy which I will have reused as I got it for #3 and expecting #4 in July.

i have just got another xt and love it,i think there solid,but with a good suspesion,i also have a triumph and this although certanly feels bigger is so much better,theres a bargin xt on the for sale board!
you wont regrete it.

I have a maclaren i bought 5 years ago for dd that i use with ds now.

They arent fancy but are good strong reliable buggies

Love my maclaren techno xt. Sturdy, comfy, easy to fold and classy looking.
Good resale too I think.

had my xt 3 years, now useing it for DD2, it's sturdy hard to break , easy to push and fold. Goes on the train and plane and yes I own a Mondeo!!!!

you can't go wrong with a mac, they are sturdy, come with lifetime warranty, the push just says 'quality' covers come off for easy washing they go on and on. Worth every penny.

I have a Quinny Buzz too and a Maclaren XT as my 'car buggy' - I love it and only use the Quinny now for walks (we live in the country and the Mac can't cope with our potholey gravel track)

It's a great buggy, does everything you want - go get one!

Love my Techno, also my car buggy although we rarely use it. Reclines nicely, good big hood, nice and sturdy. Can't go wrong.

I resisted getting a maclaren for ages as I thought they were ugly and too popular. I was cutting my nose off to spite my face, we have a black techno xt and it's been fecking fantastic, Worth every penny IMO

We had a buzz and got rid of it in favour of a maclaren (have a Quest) which is soooo much easier to use and get in and out of a car...

I hated my XT because my DS never looked comfy in it (the whole 3 months we kept it) and ended up at 2 years old, dragging his feet on the wheels which made it impossible to push.

May be better for a smaller child though oh and I despised the recline action!

Had a Triumph for years, now 'upgraded' to a Techno as my nearly-five-year-old kept cadging lifts in the Techno with his 2 yo sister on his knee, and their combined weight has killed it!

The Triumph was imo the ideal car buggy. Techno is a little bit bigger - I have a Toyota Yaris with a teeny boot and the Techno is a squeeze to fit in. Also loathe the recline action. But if it's half as reliable as the Triumph was it will be money well spent. Also looks comfier than the Triumph did.

I liked it a lot as it was light, easy to fold down and was pretty compact. However I bought a phil and teds as I was expecting ds2, then all that snow came in dec 09 and with the techno xt I would have literally been stuck at home, it would not have got anywhere in that snow. The p&t breezed through it, so I think this is a big limitation of that kind of stroller.

Yep, 3 wheel pushchairs are great in snow, they just glide through.
Hard wheeled ones, like the maclaren, just collect the snow and compact it between the wheels and you end up snow-ploughing.

We had a techno xt and it has been great.

How old is your child? The main advantage of the techno xt over the other Maclaren strollers (Triumph and Quest I think) is that it can lie completely flat. If you don't need that any more, just a bit of 'recline' you might be just as fine with one of the cheaper Maclaren models.

I had a Techno XT and it was awful.

Horrid thin flimsy hood - hard to access underseat basket - hard to push (2 handles with supposedly "ergonomic tilt" that gave me chronic back ache)....

Seat for child too small - 2 hands needed to recline back rest, 2 stage fold system that requires you to bend over....

I found the Baby Jogger City Mini MUCH better. Seat was roomy enough for child. 5 point harness was easy for me to operate - but still the child couldn't do it.
Underseat basket was roomy and easy to reach - there is a back of seat basket also.
Hood was really big and great quality - and also waterproof so raincover was not needed.

One handed push bar - so you can push it and hold an umbrella (or toddlers hand) at the same time.

One handed easy to operate unique fastfold system (see youtube!)....
Suitable from newborn.
Is as light as the Maclaren Techno too.

3 wheel design with 8 inch wheels means it can handle some off -road stuff as well as being nippy around the shops....

Love our techno xlr

Only cons are that it's heavy enough to haul in and out of the boot and that the shopping basket is difficult to get at when the seat is fully reclined.

But... it's got great suspension, we've been using it for DS since birth and 6 months later it's still the only one we've needed, it's sturdy, it's easy to fold up, it's practical, i think it looks cool in the way a pair of clarks shoes look cool (he he) and it's very durable. Def gets my vote! Shop around for a good price, you see them online from anything between £190-£280...

I loved ours. Very easy to manouvre - you can pivot them on a sixpence with one hand. Also good for taller people - other strollers gave me back ache, and I couldn't take long enough strides without stubbing my foot.
Ours did endless plane journeys in the hold, and 4 years bashing the pavements (dp walked everywhere) before a wheel fell off.

OP wont need an xlr if her dc are over 6 months though will she - and they are that little bit too wide for some bus gangways.

I have had 2 xts in 7 years and both have been great - too long for some car boots though so consider a quest etc if thats an issue.

I too loved our techno XT, used it for ages with DD1 and will use it again with DD2 once she is old enough. Loved the little bits of details like the canopy that pulls right down for when baby wants to sleep or if its really sunny ! and the pull out leg rest! DD was always comfy in it and loved being tucked up in the cosy toes over winter. Go get one!!
