Haave you tried WD40, I know it is a long shot but I would give it a go.

if it's brand new take it back to where you bought it. If it's user error they can help. If it's faulty they should help. I wouldn't use wd40 it will smell. It may stain fabric being oil based. It may invalidate your guarantee. If i use any spray i use silicone spray that does not stain fabric. Can be bought in some hardware stores. Or www.kiddicare.com has bebeconfort lubricant spray for sale, which is also silicone spray. Is your bugaboo the bee or bee+ ?

also wd40 may lubricate but dirt then accumulates in the residue and makes more problems eventually. I've never needed to lubricate the back rest mechanism on my bee+
It sounds a bit like something is not clicked into place properly somehow. Whatever you do don't force anything. Gentle wiggling and jiggling only. Was the seat correctly seated into the frame before you reclined it?
