OMG - adopting twins - help with pushchairs!

Hubby and I are about to adopt twin boys 14 months. Can any one recommend what pushchair to get? A "side by side" seems cumbersome but if I go for the one where one is in front of the other, the one of the boys will be tucked away!!So not sure! All completely new to us...HELP!!!!!!

Congratulations!

It depends on your house/gate/car and where you will be going and your budget!

If you have a gate then sometimes the doublewides won't get through the gate (been there done that!).

But the one in front, one behind ones can be very hard to push with slightly heavier children in. Especially going up and down curbs - plus one is always looking at the back of the head of the other. Also it is hard to lay them both down if they need a snooze.

If you want to go for long walks in the countryside then you will need some sort of 3 wheeler type.

We had one of these here. They are fairly robust and good for walking but you need a fairly decent sized car boot to get it in.

I think there are a couple of places that specialise in twins that can probably talk you through it. (I just 2 close together) here

I had this one, but I don't have twins, there is 15 months between them. It was a really good pushchair though, especially round the shops. The only down side was trying to lift the front up kerbs.

No idea about pushchair for twinnies, but we had the out n about for a singleton. Great pushchair, v sturdy and lasted us till DD was ready for serious walking.
Big congrats on your impending arrival- wow!

the best one i have had (and i have had hundreds of buggies) is the mountain buggy urban double 2009 version. fits through most doors as average wheelchair width, fits through my front door which is 73.8cm wide. just the best buggy especially when they are bigger. smooth to push even with my 6 and 4 year old in it. i have had all four of mine on it and still pushed ok. mine is a real workhorse and still is like new. i had one for my older two and it was the first thing i bought for our twins.

if you go for an inline, the jane powertwin is good as already said. the back seat is slightly higher so they have a better view. its smooth etc. i have had three over the years but find the back seat child pulls/bites/removes the hood for the front seat and it can tip if they lean to one side.

My friend has this one It is really good to push and really well made and is lighter than the city mini double. You will need to get the shopping basket and the green slime in a good buy. But it is really easy to push.

The other idea would be to get one that changes into a single and would take a buggy board so that as they grow you have lots of options.

We have the Nipper 360 and I love it - so easy to push and turn, feel lighter than any of the single pushchairs my friends have - and folds up relatively easily and fits (just about) into the boot of our focus.
It is a side by side one and tbh there are some places (smaller local shops) which aren't accessible (problem is more round the aisles though, when displays etc are in the way, than through the front door: it's similar width to a wheelchair so most places are accessible). Just one of the joys of twins...!

Congratulations.

All I wanted to add is that, whatever you do, don't buy a Phil & Teds. It was fine for my 2 (now 2.9yrs and 14.5months) for the first year, but recently, my youngest doesn't really like to sit in the back, kicks his legs up and pushes DS1's seat forwards.

The back seat is too small and doesn't really recline so napping a bit of an issue. I usually switch the seat to the top and recline the main seat, but as you have twins that probably won't work.

But, at least it is no wider than a single; folds down quickly and fits easily into our boot, whereas a lot of the sturdier side by sides would not.

Best suggestion is to go to Kiddicare or a big baby showroom and try out the doubles (see which will fit in your car). Not sure when the next baby show is but may be worth going just to try them all out before deciding what to buy.

Every twin mum I know seems to have the nipper out and about 360 or baby jogger city mini.

Congratulations, how exciting. DD was 14 months when she came to us, I'm a bit nostalgic now. Grin

What will you be doing with your pushchair? If you will mostly be outdoors and going for walks then a side-by-side like the nipper would be easiest. If you will be going shopping then probably the Jane Powertwin that Pantaloons linked to will be easier to get through doors and down aisles. I only have one friend with twins and she has the Powertwin. I think as her twins got older there was some competition between them as to who went in the front or back, but the back still had a good view and the child wasn't blocked off.

I am an adoptive mum too Grin I would say check out the Baby Jogger City Mini Twin. The single is just fantastic and I can imagine the double would be equally so but with a bigger shopping basket! Best of luck! Grin

nipper 360 is fantastic and fits through a standard door even though side by side! fab as both seats lie flat!

Wow! I met a lady a few weeks ago who did this, I was in awe of starting with twins at that point. Mine are 2 now, I have the baby jogger city mini and the mb urban that Mel (hi Mel!) raved about. They're both good, but the baby jogger's getting heavy to push now that they're older tbh, the MB still easy peasy. I have 2 normal sized toddlers though, they weren't prem. City mini is a doddle to fold/unfold though.

I would have got a nipper if it fitted through the front door as they're light, easy to fold but have air tyres.Think it's a terrific option. Side by side will seem cumbersome to start with, takes a while to get used to it but harder if you you buy something that's hard to manoevre with 2 largish toddlers in it IMO.

Powertwin also seems like a good option for you, but it's pretty heavy to lift in and out of the car. Many twin mums have two buggies (or more, I have 2 doubles & 2 singles), one for walking, one for the car. Depends on your budget, whether you use the car.
Have you joined tamba yet? they do a pushchair guide, but honestly everyone lately on there has either a nipper, MB urban or city mini!

hi AQ, how are you? i still love my MB, even my DH loves it and he hates most buggies. i still have my kiddyboards on it and use it min twice a day, some times i am back and forwards to school upto five times now my older two are at school there is so much going on. its been on the beach 1000s of times and is often down the woods, its still like new. if you pop a flexi chopping board in the basket, it stops it sagging when you put heavy things in it (i often have 6, 4pt milk cartons in the bottom).
i liked the nipper as well but i couldnt fit it in my door. i have just been given a babyjogger twinner(i am soooo lucky). its really light but 82cm wide, i can go for a good run with it though, i have been running with the mb and thats fine but to have 16in fixed wheels is better.

One of my friends from work has twins and she had a pretty good twin pushchair. It is one of those ones with the seats side by side, but its not actually as big as it seems.

I don't know if you know the Extreme at mothercare but this is like that but with 2 seats. I think its pretty nice and she loves it. I got her to send me the link this is it:

I have the MB Urban double. I have 1 toddler & 2nd baby is due in February, so I haven't really used it in anger yet, but I really like it. It feels ever so solid, easy to steer & the cosytoes are like mini sleeping bags - really snuggly. I guess one downside is that it faces away from you. is a good little demo video. I suspect many of the puschairs recommended on your thread probably have bits on Youtube to give you a better idea Smile

Someone on one of the threads recommended buying from Baby Jungle in the Netherlands to get a bargain price on the 2008 model here. They ship to the UK.

the buggy linked to above is a real bargain, its the terrain fixed wheel one, i have had one before, it felt lighter than the urban and has a fixed handle, you must check it will fit in your car.
shipping is 24euros, so for buggy and two of those fab spotty mountain buggy footmuffs inc shipping its 381 euros, looks like there is only one black, four red and two navy left.
even i am tempted to get one.
