Living just off a main road - is it ok?

Have seen a good house but it's 200m off a main road with buses/shops/pubs on it. Does anyone live in this situation? Is noise an issue? I'm thinking about hearing voices/car doors slamming/general lairy-ness/yoofs in the evening...?
Or do you think 200m is enough of a barrier (she said hopefully)?

We bought a house about the same distance away from a main road with a pub on it, takeaway and several businesses.

I have to say it was very noisy and the main reason we moved. The road noise wasn't really a problem but when blokes left the pub they would often realise they needed a wee just outside our house and then relieve themselves in our doorway - mmmmm lovely!!

Can be a problem as I leave my bedroom window open all year round. I don't mind...the traffic dies down but I do hear the pub clientele walking home sometimes and the occasional domestic en route home.

200m seems quite a buffer zone to me - depends how busy the road is and whether your road would be a rat run/route home for people from the main road.

200m should be OK - I'm about 100m from an A-road with a row of shops, buses every couple min, nee-nahs every hour or two, and when the windows are shut MrNC doesn't really hear anything. There's a bit of noise with windows open on summery weekends, but more of it is the back gardens (only about 20 foot square, two whole streets back to back) than the main road.

Friends live much closer to the corner (25m?) and their house is a lot noiser. Although impeccably decorated for the same price as our ruin was (envy).

Interesting! I'll just have to test it out a bit more i Ssuppose. I think part of the problem is sthat it's an area young people like to out drinking but I don't think it would be on a rat run home for people , but I just wonder if you'd pick up people being rowdy on the road. The road curves a bit so maybe it'd be blocked a bit.
thanks - good to hear your views!
