Help me decide on my bathroom floor please!

It's got to be vinyl, but I can't decide whether to go for a slightly metallic green-mosaic, and keep the walls/tiles v plain, or a rather retro black-and-white, and inject some colour into the walls with paint etc

House is a modern cottage, about 20 years old, nothing special but in charming rural area so don't want to put anyone off if/when we want to sell up (no plans)

I like the black and white much more than the green shiny one. Some friends have the black and white check in their bathroom and it looks great.

cazzybabs · 27/06/2010 14:17

black and white

mistressploppy · 27/06/2010 18:23

Hmmm, yes, I think you're right, just have to convince DH now

I have the mosiac on my bathroom floor and it looks really dreary; much prefer the black and white

abdnhiker · 27/06/2010 18:27

I don't like the black and white at all - just to throw a curve ball. We're going to go with this one for our tiny ensuite though so maybe a completely different style than you're after.

mistressploppy · 27/06/2010 18:32

That is nice abdnhiker but I have a weird aversion to things pretending to be something they're not - ie imitation stone, wood etc. The black and white is 'pretending' to be tiles though, so maybe I'm talking out my bum

I've got to do a tiny downstairs loo, a medium ensuite and a medium family bathroom, and I can't be arsed to choose different looks for each!

We had a really nice vinyl from the people that make marmoleum. It looks great in a victorian house with a modern bathroom

Ooh, link please KarenG

May I ask why "it's got to be vinyl"?

inthesticks · 02/07/2010 16:13

I'm about to have my bathroom done and was thinking about floors. I love that black and white. I too would have to go for vinyl. I have 12 and 14 year old boys who leave the bathroom like a swamp.

Whatever the colour imo vinyl is much more comfortable underfoot, especially in the winter as tiles get really cold. I also think it's safer, as in less slippery. Also if you drop something it does little or no damage vs shattering to smithereens. It can look great, get a good fitter, especially if you go for the black and white.

Why not proper lino, such as Marmoleum?
All the same qualities as vinyl, but its a natural product so better for the environment and also feels much nicer to walk on with bare feet.
It comes in all sorts of colour/designs, I like a marbled finish for bathrooms as it is very practical (unlike black and white floors which show up dust and dirt repectively).

Its around £28-30 per sq metre so similar to middle range vinyl.

Oh, some very good points there, Pannacotta (good name btw)

Am a terrible slattern so your point about showing up dirt is v pertinent.
