Carpet dilemma!

We need carpets for the bedrooms. DH says we must have the same colour carpet as on the stairs and landing which is currently beige so it all matches and flows. I hate the beige carpet as it shows every mark so want to change it for dark green. Dark green is going to look minging in bedrooms (or is it?) so my dilemma is this....is my DH right about the matching? If so what shall we do, go with the dark green in the bedrooms or get a lighter colour and live with the stains?

I would say stick with the beige in the main living areas (easier to get soft furnishings to match) but consider something other than carpet for the bathroom. How about some lovely slate tiles or even wooden flooring? Carpet is very difficult to keep clean in a bathroom and doesn't dry quickly and can get a bit pongy. Just my experience, but maybe I'm a bit of a slattern in the cleanliness department!

I dont think matching is necessary and if anyhting can look a little 'show-homey'. Really not sure about dark green though, surely thats more likely to show up bits?

CheeseOnToast...not bathroom....bedrooms. We have tiles in the bathroom.

notasize10....ummm you think? What would you say would be a good colour for stairs. I can hoover bits but I hate the stains. Not showing stains or much bits would be ideal!

we have a slighty-speckeldly-darker-than-beige-but-not-brown which I am happy with- doesnt show too much in the way of bits or marks.

a bit like this

this

this is quite close

my cousin has dark green carpet in her lounge/sitting room. It doesn't show dirt, but does show every bit of fluff, white dog hair, crumbs, grass tracked in from the garden, etc.

Might not be much of a problem in a bedroom, but I certainly wouldn't recommend in a high traffic part of the house.

We have dark green carpets throughout the whole house ..... Were here when we moved in 12 years ago and still just about hanging on. Doesn't matter if you knock a glass of red wine over on dark green carpet, but obviously shows lighter fluff.

I am not a matching person so the flow thing wouldn't bother me. DDs have pink walls with dark green carpet!

IngridFletcher · 24/06/2010 15:38

I think light pink and dark green matches (which probably goes to show my DH has a point!).

I am still undecided but like the speckly carpet...maybe speckly green.

Thanks all.
