Talk to me about kitchen lighting....

Planning a new kitchen. We have old lathe and plaster ceilings so I don't think we can easily have downlights. What are the other alternatives? I don't fancy the idea of a single pendant light in a kitchen, feels odd for some reason.

What have you got?

We've got old lath & plaster ceilings too. We've got 2 pendant fittings, but with brushed aluminium lamp shades which goes well with our kitchen & doesn't look old-fashioned
We've also got under-cupboard halogen lights, which light up the worktops. And we've got blue LED lights in the plinths under the base units.
