have just gone under offer, so I suppose we should really start paying some attention to moving. Have seen my dream house in datchet (which is commutable for work) but I don't really know the village. Any info on what it is like and what the local schools are?

Datchet is a lovely village despite the flight path and proximity to M4. It really depends on where you are exactly.

The local school situation is really weird. There is a primary school - St Mary's - which is fine. The secondary school is not sought after (Churchmead). Clever kids can have a go at grammar schools in Slough. Although it is outside the Windsor system, it is feasible to attend first and middle schools, and then Windsor Girls'. Windsor Boys' is a lot more competitive.

There are several independent schools in the area. The closest is Eton End - a prep school for girls only. For boys, there is St John's Beaumont (prep). There are two girls' prep schools in Windsor - Brigidine Juniors and Upton House. For co-ed prep, there is Bishopsgate and Long Close. Senior schools are a lot more difficult - Brigidine Senior in Windsor for girls and Long Close in Slough. Everything else is much further away - Maidenhead, Weybridge, Reading, West London.

Planes not a problem, because we are currently in SW London right under the flight path. Schools more of an issue because I have boys going in to reception, Yr 4 and Yr5 and I suspect it will be difficult to find places for all in St Mary's. Not sure whether it is better to move now, go private and hope for Windsor Boys' later or to stay in the same area we are now. Just seems like we would get more space there and I really have fallen in love with a house
