Neighbours - reason not to buy???

We are in process of buying our rental - was a bit forced on us because LL needed to sell and we didn't want to move. We really like the house - nice 3 bed detached which needs work but nothing major or structural. The kids see it as their home, is in a nice village and is really close to the school etc.

The problem is the neighbours! Recently there has been a break up and a new bloke has moved in. They go out and leave their kids alone almost every night making a racket. There are also some leylandii trees between us which are being left to grow to a huge height (blocking out light) and I don't fancy approaching them about it tbh!

We've not had any problems previously but I now wonder if we are doing the right thing in buying - should we get out before signing on the dotted line???

Dreadful neighbours can seriously ruin your life. I would seriously look elsewhere. Why would you want to buy property next to people like that?

Would pull out - inconsiderate/unpleasant neighbours can put a real blight on your home.

Avoid

lal123 · 18/06/2010 20:39

Neighbours are just as important as the house itself - avoid

madrose · 18/06/2010 20:39

move now

Do not buy.

NorbertDentressangle · 18/06/2010 20:44

I don't think I would buy TBH.

Then again, I've probably been swayed by conversations I've had with 2 people this week who both have hellish neighbours (separate people/separate neighbours).

I couldn't live with what they have to put with.

jenroy29 · 18/06/2010 22:02

Do your neighbours own their house and are you paying full market price for your house?

chegggersplayspop · 18/06/2010 22:08

Don't buy it. My sister has disputes with her neighbours and its awful. She is desperate to move and doesn't feel comfortable in her own home.

I would look for another place in the same village if you like it there. I set the bar at a completely different level when deciding whether to rent or buy somewhere. I rented a house once without having seen it - I obviously wouldn't ever do that if I was buying somewhere!

violethill · 19/06/2010 10:19

Don't buy.

MissAnneElk · 19/06/2010 10:56

Another no. We've had some pretty awful neighbours in the past and it starts to take over your life. Also, if you buy and have issues with them, you will then have to disclose that to potential buyers if you decide to sell.

HgDad · 19/06/2010 11:10

Don't do it. Bad neighbours can make seriously affect your quality of life, I've found to my cost, twice.

Got lovely ones now, fortunately.

linspins · 19/06/2010 21:45

Don't do it. You will always feel uncomfortable, and it's horrid having noise etc so close.
