underfloor heating?

for a concrete floor, with floor tiles over the top, what floor heating would you recommend -

in-scree

or matting?

what about running cost for both? (it would be runnning through two 20 ft by 10 ft rooms)

the cocrete is going to eb re-laid under insurance, so Mil has the choice...

ALways hot water piped system. Very very efficent as similar to rads but with rads the heat only stays in that area and lots of wastage. Underfloor hot water runs off existing boiler (need to confirm is ok) a manifold system on the wall (box with valves)
Thermostat in the room so totally controllable.

Matting is electric - expensive to run and not efficient enough for a large room (best for ensuites). You would still need to get rads if using this.

Make sure you get it fitted by an approved plumber with experience of this system.

it would be fitted by the builders own plumber so no issue on that score - hot water piped system more problematic as it will be runnign from a rayburn (and half the point is to have some heating independant of the rayburn which is a solid fuel model) - and the ray is already taxed by 5 rads to heat the house.

good info on matting thank you - BIl thought that meant the radiator could be removed in one of the rooms. evidently not.

I've got electric underfloor heating in every room and don't need rads. Floors are wood or ceramic tiles. My house is old so ceilings are high. V cosy and lovely underfoot. It is more expensive to run than a hot water system tho. But we love it and would not go back to rads.

Sorry to hyjack your thread but didn't want to start a new one with similar questions. With UFH is it ok to have wooden or laminate floors?
