New kitchen - which American style fridge freezer?

I am baffled by the various options and models out there. Someone just TELL me which one to get please?

We have got a FABBO Sharp one

Same dimensions as an American one but FAR more practical as it has 4 doors so no silly tall thin freezer issues.

Daffodilly · 07/06/2010 20:50

That looks nice Castille. Any other recommendations?

I have this. DS1 loves ice dispenser and water cooler.

sowhatis · 10/06/2010 08:19

we have a maytag with ice/water thing, its huge though and very often looks empty!!

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 21:30

Castille, we are on the brink of ordering that Sharp one. Looks like the f/f of my dreams. Are you still around? Can I ask you some nerdy questions?

castille · 11/06/2010 21:34

I'm here - ask away

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 21:45

Ooh! [panicky conferring with DH]

We've planned to put it into a recess. There'll be a bit of a gap (30mm) on either side. We are worrying that the doors won't open wide enough to get at the crisper drawers. Do you have any thoughts? Do the doors swing out at the side, or do they kind of pivot?

Desperate to see one for real, but can't find any showrooms with them in.

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 21:54

Is it noisy?

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 21:55

Do you just totally love it or do you have any reservations about it?

Rindercella · 11/06/2010 22:03

We're about to move house and DH is pretty much set on getting one of these Fisher Paykel f/f. Has rave reviews apparently.

castille · 11/06/2010 22:09

Not sure 30mm each side will be enough tbh.

The fridge is 90cm wide and ours is in a corner of the kitchen, in a space just over 1m wide between wall and units. It's fine there, but any less than that might be a bit tight for opening the doors and drawers properly.

Haven't noticed noise, I don't think it's any noisier than any other fridge.

I do totally love it, the wide fridge is brilliant and the freezer is uber practical.

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 22:17

That Fisher Paykel looks pretty phwoarh and has a water dispenser.. but Which? drooled over the Sharp and the freezer seems unusually well designed

Thanks for that Castille, v helpful, think we'll speak to the builders and revise the recess idea a bit

castille · 11/06/2010 22:21

Ooh did Which? like my fridge?!

Recess would be ok if it wasn't as deep as the fridge (which is quite deep), so the doors would open beyond it, IYSWIM

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 22:30

Not a best buy but 72% rating and said running costs impressively low for such a behemoth.

I don't suppose I could, um, trouble you for the depth of the door, ie from the front/face to the hinge?

castille · 11/06/2010 22:45

no trouble, I always have a tape measure in my pocket

Door 6/7cm deep (slightly deeper in the middle than at the sides)

CarmelitaMiggs · 11/06/2010 22:53

You beauty!

Many thanks, saved us lots of hassle/time with that bit of info
