Window film (cheaper alternative to Brume)?

We have original windows in our house which we don't want to re-glaze. However...the bathrooms and loos don't have opaque glass in them so we need to draw the curtains every time we want some privacy .

I think the best option is to put up some window film, like the stuff that Brume makes, however the Brume film is v.expensive. Can anyone recommend somewhere cheaper please?

I used a spray once which was very effective. I think it was B&Q and definitely under a fiver. I'll see if I can find a link.

Not sure about whether the damp and heat from a bathroom would affect it though.

How easy was it to clean Rocinante? I'm worried that with a spray it may come off when I have to wipe it (the steam from the bathroom may lift it?).

It was fairly robust and was fine to wipe over gently - I'm not sure it would withstand any chemicals on it though.

Could you put in an upwards blind or half shutters? Admittedly, probably more expensive than going for the Brume option though!

We used a spray on bathroom glazed door and loo window, hard to get it on evenly so it didn't look perfect; however it lasted pretty well (has been on nearly 8 years now!). Since dp used steamer to get strip walls it's coming off the bathroom door. If I could possibly afford it would use film next time.

We bought our window film from ebay. It's removeable but not reusable, you can wipe over no problem. Wasn't expensive (a lot cheaper than Brume anyway). I think Ikea have their own version too (not patterned, but I guess you can cut out shapes if you want).

Just had a look at eBay prices - about ten time cheaper than Brume. We used Brume in our last place and I'm now kicking myself!

We bought from abodewindowfilms. We buy it on a roll, this time was about 6m worth.

Although you can do it single handed it is easier if there are two of you, just for the peeling and turning part.

We used a roll of plastic window film from B&Q. The one we have is just plain opaque white but I think there were others. It's cheap, about £5 a roll I think. It's quite fiddly to apply but looks really good.

In our previous house we use an opaque spray which I found very difficult to apply evenly. Go for the film - much easier.
