Roundhouse Kitchen

Just about to sign Terms and Conditions for a Roundhouse Designs kitchen, and having a last minute panic about a) are they any good and b) T&C are massively slanted in their favour, not sure if that's standard for a bespoke kitchen. Loathe to spend this much money when I'm not 100% certain. Has anyone used Roundhouse before? Or had similar experience of T&C with bespoke kitchen designers?

Interesting that all the positive reviews are from brand-new posters ..... just sayin'.

I was a kitchen designer with a small bespoke handmade company for over 10 years. Now my partner and I are starting our own company -www.chalkhouseinteriors.co.uk . I found this post because of all the high cost 'glossy' kitchen companies we've looked at, Roundhouse was the one that attracted me most - I like the clean simple stylish lines - something which we aspire to. Its certainly been an eye-opener and we'll take some lessons from it. I would have thought that at the top end of the market they would have been using painted hard wood for the doors rather than spray painted mdf. I can only guess that the wide range of experiences illustrated in the thread might be down to them expanding past their ability to control their quality - different teams in different areas etc.

Does John Lewis fit your own appliances within their kitchen units or do these have to be bought from them? I'm asking because you can get same appliances cheaper via online retailers rather than being stuck with John Lewis website. How much more expensive is to go for the supply & fit option vs. supply only?

Just had a Roundhouse kitchen fitted. Excellent service, everything happened on time, great after- sales , Looks fantastic , everyone admires it.Highly recommend. It's our second Roundhouse and we're delighted.

I'm writing this from MY Roundhouse kitchen! Its totally beautiful, and works really well. Our designer Ben was brilliant. Maybe we were lucky because our builders were so good, but the fitting went very smoothly.
The whole process is long, but worth it.

Anyone else had bad experience with Roundhouse i.e. paint coming off their units, badly fitted?

Jancis2000 · 01/07/2013 20:55

We were impressed with Roundhouse from start to finish. No complaints about paint. The fitter who fitted our kitchen (and wardrobes) was a perfectionist and it all looks amazing.

8 years in and our kitchen still looks amazing. Built like a tank.

Just want to add my tuppence worth on this thread even though it's old. Roundhouse are a complete rip off. They use melamine faced chipboard (MFC) to build their kitchens which they describe as "walnut veneer". Don't be conned it's plastic. I have never regretted a large purchase so much in my life. Also their sell is all about bespoke which couldn't be further from the truth. Give these guys a very wide berth.

We are in the process of installing a Roundhouse kitchen which is proving stressful. Can anyone else who has been through the experience confirm whether one fitter is the norm? We are convinced that a number of problems are being caused by the fact that one guy is working alone (hefting and fixing cabinets to ceiling height) resulting in damage and a snagging list that is going to take longer to deal with than the build!
Thanks

My (£60,000)
Roundhouse kitchen was a disaster from start to finish, although I do believe the man who designed it was sacked later. We ended up having the managing director look at it, and there are still so many things I do not like and which are not functional.

JugglingChaotically · 25/07/2015 18:58

My friend had a Roundhouse Kitchen put in a few years back and loved it.
Design and quality excellent.
We looked at several and went for Roundhouse in the end and I cannot fault them. The kitchen is amazing, attention to detail fantastic and the couple of minor snags that would be hard to spot at design stage have been addressed proactively.
If only the rest of our built had been so smooth!
I would recommend them without hesitation.

Marmitelover55 · 26/07/2015 19:30

Glad to hear its gone well JC as I remember your builder problems Smile

JugglingChaotically · 28/07/2015 22:41

Thanks Marmite. It got worse before it got better. Almost there now.

Regarding Roundhouse kitchens, I have recently been introduced via Houzz and I'm wondering where others have found out about them. Do they offer unique designs as apposed to B&Q & Magnet. I really want something special but worried about choosing a relative unknown if that's what they are. I hope someone can help?
