Can someone reassure me that removals people doing the packing for you works out smoothly please

We are moving next Monday and the packers are packing on Saturday. I keep throwing things out so that all our "stuff" doesn't travel with us but will the packers mind if things are haphazardly in cupboards? DH is working away where we are moving and will be there from tomorrow v early until Thursday v late.

I am going to be working from Wednesday until Sunday (great timing there) and am panicking about how everything is going to happen.

I think I just need patting on the head and someone saying "it will all be fine". Doesn't help that DH seems to be doing nothing and just telling me I'm doing really well .

I have two mates who have used this type of service.

They thought it was absolutely brilliant!

They said the people packed everything safely from the cupboards etc, then when they arrived at the new house, they unpacked it and sided it all away in new kitchen.

Cost abit more, but they said well worth it.

Pat...pat...it will all be fine. Really. We did this when we moved and it made our lives so, so easy.

So it will be fine? I think I have control issues as I won't be there on the day they pack and don't trust DH to make sure things that mustn't be packed away (like my glasses and the cat's basket will still be there on Saturday evening).

I had packers and a newborn (!)
but we had already packed a load of stuff in storage beforehand - which then arrived at the new house but we knew that this was stuff that didn't need to be unpacked straight away.

My only tip is to make sure that they are labelling things properly and being really specific. I had 28 boxes or something just called KITCHEN and couldn't distinguish between tinned food and saucepans which was a pita.

When I used packers, they even packed the bags of rubbish I'd put out. And plants in pots in the garden, both of which I'd intended to leave. They were absolutely brilliant.

It was the best thing i have ever spent money on, seriously

The only thing to watch is when they unpack that things are where you want them. they usually work in teams so it all happens very fast. At one point they were unpacking books onto a bookcase which wasn't in the right place and i had to intervene quickly to get it moved before the books went on. just remember they are usually men who have little clue that things have rightful 'places'

I'm not sure whether ours are unpacking as well. Suppose they would have to if they get the boxes back. Think I may either take the DC out on the afternoon of the move or get DH to otherwise there could be chaos. Or more than normal.

I was pregnant, had DD1 aged 4 and DH was away at sea when I moved here. I had packers in and it was worth every penny. They came the day before and packed up (so quickly!) and moved us the next day.

They had told me that they didn't pack up the loft or garage (I had already got the loft emptied into the garage) but obviously loaded it onto the lorry. And they didn't unpack at the other end but labelled the boxes pretty well so I soon got unpacked - moved on Thursday was completely unpacked by Sunday! If they don't unpack you they just get the boxes back at a later date.

They also built the beds and hung pictures on walls - not where I wanted them but stuck them up out the way on existing picture hooks so at least I wasn't tripping over them.

It made life SO much easier and was so worth it.

My mum's flat got packed for her; it was great! They didn't unpack which was just as well.

Depends on the company. We've done this several times. If it's Pickfords or another big international mover you are going to have a fab time and won't believe how brilliant it is. If a local company that doesn't often do the packing service it might be a bit hit and miss, with strange things in boxes together and everything labelled weirdly.

It is a small local firm but tbh even if there are weird things labelled in a strange way it will be much better than if we did it and we seriously do not have the time so it is better anyway .

Sorry to thread hijack but does anyone have an approximate cost for the packing they are willing to share - I'm just wondering how much to add on to what we put aside for removals but not ready to get formal quotes just yet as not quite sure where we are moving too!

Last time we moved, my company was paying for it and the removal men packed us. It was fantastic (though I had made sure I'd packed a suitcase of stuff I didn't want them to see....). They didn't unpack us at the new house, but came back for the boxes when we called to say they were empty.

Only thing that got broken was the teapot lid, and that was because DH is a clumsy oaf.

We did this with our last move. They were very quick and efficient - nothing broken - and worth every penny.

Anything left in drawers or cupboards was secured so it couldn't fall out.

They didn't unpack at the new house, just came and collected the boxes when we phoned to say they were empty.

Agreed packing is brilliant. We used Reliable Removals and they were great. We packed small cases of valuables and things we would need for 2 days. They came on Saturday and packed everything while we were out. We moved in on Monday and it was just so much less hassle than doing it all ourselves.
