Victorian porch/french front doors - what colour would you have?

We're about to replace our awful upvc porch doors with some wooden ones. House is double fronted victorian.

Out of interest what colour would you paint them...or have you. I was thinking black but wondered if we should be more adventerous?

what colour are the rest of your window frames?

if there are any close it might look odd a different colour

Upvc white but can't afford to do the whole house....and they're are not nearly as offensive as the doors!!

Have seen some lovely chalky/grey/green colours but unless i know the exact shade wouldn't like to take the gamble. So thought black is a safe but good bet??

We painted our Victorian front door a Farrow and Ball dark grey called Down Pipe. But that was a slight compromise because DH wouldn't agree to my favoured colour which was Calke Green, and is a bit like littlemiss described above: chalky grey green. You can see samples at the F&B website.

Fanny - thanks for the colours - exactly what i was thinking of!

Did you test 'green smoke' - looks good too?

My front door used to be Calke Green but I went off it and repainted it Stone Blue!

OP is the new door going to be solid wood or do you mean fully glazed French doors as your Thread title suggests?? If solid wood then any colour you fancy would be fine but if the new doors are essentially window-like then I think it might look a bit odd if the frames are a different colour to the existing window frames

Part glazed....ie top half glazed, bottom wood. Very wide double doors though, not skinny french doors

I have a lovely greyish green on mine, though it's come out more green than grey. It's F & B French Gray. It's lovely. In eggshell.

I like the look of Vert de Terre if you want a greyish green. Calke Green us quite a strong green in RL and not really greyish at all...

We have just done ours in Farrow & Ball French Gray too. Looks gorgeous!
