Wood and wood and wood - is it going to look stupid?

I think my plan may be rubbish. Or maybe it is just very late and I am overthinking - but anyway, I need help!

We are having an extension and a new kitchen, with a dining area at the garden/double door end. My whole idea is to get something that is extremely low maintenance and looks fresh and lively but warm.

The kitchen will be an Ikea white gloss, with warm, pale walls, some bright utensils and so on. Stainless steel/black appliances apart from my white fridgefreezer. I'm not an all-matching kind of girl really.

Now this is where I might be going wrong. I want warm wood effect laminate worktops (Duropal) and oak-effect Karndean flooring and a wooden table.

Is it going to look stupid? What would look better and be really REALLY easy to keep clean (basically not show the dirt!)?

I think that will look great. It might have been too much if the cabinets were going to be a similar wood shade but as they'll be white gloss it wont be too much at all.

I think it sounds attractive and 'natural'. i like the sound of it.

i have painted white units, a warm walnut laminate top, an antique style wooden posh laminate floor, and a really old washed out pine table...walls are white, blinds are white and red, with flashes of red bits and pieces all over the kitchen....fridge and cooker are stainelss steel...

it looks lush i have to say!

it is very natural looking, and matches well but without being too contrived.

Chimchar - are your woods all different then? That is exactly what I am wondering about - whether having all the same will be toooo much, or whether having them mixed and matched will look weird.

I think it will look best if the worktop and floor are a similar tone.

If you feel it will all be too much, you could get a table in a different material...

I have white painted units with iroko worktops and a mid brown wooden floor and a wooden table. It looks lovely IMO.

The iroko has darkened with danish oil to a similar colour to the table I suppose, darker than pine but not really dark brown.

I also have a black and steel cooker with chrome bits around and lots of coloured glass.

gentleness... its all different, but has lots of the same tones in it iykwim?

and the pine table picks up the really light tones...

it does work really well, even if i do say so myself!!

just checked out my links now...the walnut top has lots of dark streaks through it and the flooring has a much more "mottled" effect with lots of light areas in it, so it does match!

that is almost exactly what we have

very pleased indeed with it.

i put off making the final choice of floor finish until i had the worktops in situ- just as well as i went for a different shade.

I have oak floor and cupboards in my kitchen and a wooden table (think there is a pic on my profile). I think it looks fine and the floor is so easy to clean I love it

when I was chosing a new dining table recently I worried that table would clash with my wooden floor. Woman in the shop made a valid point, that all woods pretty much match as are a natural product. Lots of different types of trees in the woods look lovely together and blend well.
