Kitchen table or breakfast bar?

Trying to decide whether to get a built in breakfast bar in the corner of the kitchen.
we currently have space for a table which seats 4 but I've been thinking of sprucing up the kitchen a bit and getting a breakfast bar and new flooring and worktops. Am starting to think however maybe a table is better as we have little ones?

Table definitely better. Breakfast bars are very over-rated in my opinion. We had one put in and rarely even use it. Our table, however, is well worn! We have meals at it, kids draw or do homework, I am MN-ing from it as we speak

I love having a kitchen table for crafts, making sweets, decorating etc with DD.
So I'm voting for table.

Another vote for kitchen table. We had a breakfast bar in our kitchen/dinner when we moved in but removed it as soon as we got a table. You feel so much more comfortable on the proper table!

Table.

Table! Much more homely + practical especially with little ones.

oh ok. thanks ladies, you've just saved me a bit of money. I guess you are right, table more practical, just fed up with the kitchen and wanted a change. Might just paint the walls instead.
Will track down Reality (I think it was her?) and see if she ever painted her kitchen the colour MNers recommended

Good call! I don't like breakfast bars myself, I think they look dated and they're not multifunctional. Also, unless your DC are older and not prone to bouts of silliness, I would forsee a lot of toppling off those bar stools...

very good point. DD (3.5) is very prone to constant bouts of silliness.
