Loft Conversion - Building regulations

Completely confused here.
From the council website it looks like we can do a loft conversion within permited planning.

So how do we make sure we meet building regulations?
Do we need to get a building certificate?

building regs and planning are completely separate.

For building regs you either need to do a building regs application, or a notice of building intention (which one you do will depend on the build) and you then have regular building regs inspections through the build and are issued with a completion certificate at the end.

anyway of getting building regs - retrospectively?
