We're redecorating our bedroom in a couple of weeks and have just ordered this bed. I probably should have considered the whole 'scheme' before I ordered it, but the sale ends tonight so I impulse-bought and now I'm not sure of what style of furniture will go with it!

The bed is such a traditional style ('girly' my DH says), so I don't know whether to go with that and get more traditional furniture (either white curvy girly-type or more rustic country-style), or go for something completely modern and contrasting. We have wardrobes in the box room across the landing and all our clothes are in there, so we don't need a lot of furniture really - just a bedside table each side of the bed for lamps, a dressing table with a mirror and stool, and a chest of drawers for undies etc. We could probably squeeze a comfy chair into the corner too (squeeze is the word - the bed is superking size!).

We haven't decided on colour schemes or anything yet - thought it best to get the furniture ordered to make sure it's here in time, and then work around that. So I'm completely open to suggestions. At the moment the walls are pale blue with a very pale cream carpet and white furniture. The only stipulation for the new room is that carpet will have to be darker, as this one always looks filthy, but other than that anything goes.

DH says, and I quote: "I don't care what you do with the room as long as it still has a bed". Helpful!

Any suggestions?

Nice bed, and I don't think it's too girly. Quite masculine actually.
I think it would go with pretty much anything.
If you are getting a dark carpet then I would keep the walls plain and light and add some colour with curtains, cushione etc.
I would go for dark furniture, just because I like it.

Nice bed.We have ones similar but are old. They go really well with patterned wallpaper in retro/traditional styles. But maybe in pale shades if the carpet is dark.Dark wood bedside cabinets would look nice or LLoyd loom style cabinets.A slipper style bedroom chair wouldn't take up much room in the bedroom and you could upholster it in a contrasting [but toning] fabric.Look in period house and antiques mag. to get ideas. We also had to have specially made flat pelmets to cover underneath the bed as there was a very large gap.Try laura ashley for patterns/checks to suit .

Thanks for the suggestions

I didn't think the bed was particularly girly either, but DH alternates between it being a 'girly bed' and a 'kinky bed' (probably thinking handcuffs! Neeeever gonna happen...!)

I thought rather than paper a feature wall, I could get a big vintage-style picture frame to hang centrally over the bed and frame some patterned fabric - the walls are in pretty good condition and I'm much better at painting than I am at wallpapering! Either that or a collection of smaller frames instead, but the same idea. I suppose if I do that and then co-ordinate the bedding and curtains, leaving the rest of the room plain, I can change them if I get bored in the future. Just need to decide on my furniture now so I can choose some colours!

Sounds like a plan Mrs. I like the idea of lots of small frames, all different sizes and colours with family photos in.
