but what happens when someone makes an offer on a house before they've sold theirs. Is there any point? If you accept it can you change your mind if someone in a better position comes along?

I think that an offer can be put on a house and accepted, but kept on the market, so if a better offer comes along you can accept that instead. We were going to put an offer on the house we are buying now before having sold ours, and our estate agent advised not too, as if someone else came along with a better offer,it could be accepted anyway. Somebody want to buy yours then? Check with your estate agent to be sure.

Depends where you live Scotland or England.

England seb.

No not yet hop. Just hoping Most of the viewings seem to be from people who haven't sold so I was wondering what happens.

It's up to you, and generally it's a good thing to do as then when you find somewhere to buy you can tell the sellers your property is sold.

BUT the people buying yours will be wanting to get a move on, so they may not wait for ever. And you can pull out any time before exchange of contracts but you do have to think about how comfortable you would feel with doing that. The people buying your home would have spent money already on things like the survey, and would have invested time and emotional energy in your house. It's not fair to take an offer with the view to dumping it.

I wouldn't take my house off the market for anyone without a completed chain behind them though.

Thanks trauma.

I'm not in the fortunate position of having an offer made on my house yet But we have seen something we like.
