Yellow walls/wallpaper with a red sofa??

Me again, still doing up the cottage. This is a bit of a way down the line but would love some opinions on my sitting room. It is unfortunately quite small and dark, with heavy beams.

I have a red sofa and two mid-brown leather chairs. Floor will be herringbone coir, with a red and black Turkish rug on the top. New cushions are a sort of golden brown with red, black and yellow tones (they sound vile I am sure but have pictures of chic ladies on and are tasteful I promise).

We were thinking of some sort of white on the walls except for the wall which the sofa will be against, and DP has suggested a rich, deep golden yellow. I love the colour but not sure it will go. He would particularly like a striped F&B wallpaper in this colour. Is it madness?

I have deep yellow walls and cherry red sofas, it actually looks very warm and welcoming.

I have a real fire and tied the colours together with a red fireside rug and red and gold on the cushions.

It is bright and welcoming in the morning when the sun streams through and lovely on a winters evening when the fire is lit.

Go for it.

Thanks Pedro, that gives me a bit more confidence.

I have soft gold walls with a red sofa, it looks great!

Sounds fine. Cushions do sound a bit dodgy though, especially with the ladies on them...

I absolutely promise they aren't as awful sounding as I have described them

Goldeny yellow looks really nice with red, stay away from the citrus shades though. Will look lovely in a cottage.

I think ochre yellow shades would go well with red - think italian villas and the different colour combinations.I have F&B dorset cream [which is actually an ochre shade]with red tiles in my dark hall and it looks really rich.I think you can get a similar shade in the striped wallpaper.I think if you tie yourself to a deep yellow and want to change the room it might be difficult. But then again i am a neutrals girl and tend to change accessories instead of walls so feel free to ignore!.
